Finland’s online gambling payments sector is entering a period of change as the country prepares to replace its monopoly model with an open licensing system in 2027. Swedish providers Zimpler and Brite have established strong positions in Pay N Play, while Finnish fintech Trumo is seeking a larger role as the market prepares for new licensed operators.
Established Payment Providers Face New Competition
Registration-free casino payments have become popular among Finnish players, with Zimpler and Brite among the most recognised services. Zimpler, which began with mobile payments, shifted its focus toward Pay N Play as the model gained ground across European gambling markets. Its service allows customers to make deposits and withdrawals through online banking credentials, while supporting nearly all major Finnish banks.
Brite followed a similar path after being founded specifically around Pay N Play. The Swedish provider enables casino customers to transfer funds through online banking without traditional usernames or passwords. Its presence has grown quickly despite having operated for only a few years.
Finnish providers Viljo and Trumo have recently entered the market. Viljo has built its payment service around local users and supports a broad selection of Finnish banks. Trumo focuses on fast account-to-account payments, with multi-layer authentication and data security forming key parts of its offering.
Gambling Reform Opens A New Market
Trumo’s expansion comes as Finland prepares to introduce licensing for online gambling. The reform will end Veikkaus’ online monopoly and allow international operators to apply for licences, with licensed services expected to begin operating from July 2027.
The regulatory shift is creating demand for payment systems that can process transactions quickly while supporting identity checks and compliance requirements. Trumo says its platform provides real-time account-to-account payments, strong customer authentication and instant verification of bank account ownership. The company operates under the supervision of the Finnish Financial Supervisory Authority.
Founded in 2020 and headquartered in Helsinki, Trumo also has a technology hub in Tallinn. Its business covers iGaming as well as e-commerce and fintech, giving the company applications beyond gambling.
Pay N Play Remains Central To The Sector
The growth of registration-free payments in Finland reflects a wider Nordic shift toward account-to-account transactions. Trustly helped establish the Pay N Play model by combining player identification and deposits through online banking, after which providers such as Brite and Zimpler expanded the concept.
The arrival of Finnish competitors adds another layer to the market. Both Viljo and Trumo have been developed with the country’s changing regulatory environment in mind, including systems intended to support transaction monitoring and reporting.
For Trumo, Finland’s gambling reform provides an opportunity to compete with established Nordic payment companies while applying its technology across other digital payment sectors. Whether it can secure a position alongside larger providers will depend on how operators and players respond as the new licensing framework takes effect.

The timing is interesting, with Trumo entering just as Finland prepares to move away from the Veikkaus monopoly.
