Twin River Casino has ongoing problems with its senior representative. One of them has just been accused of bribery and the casino is already in hot water.
More About the Incident
Rhode Island Attorney General’s office has announced that it filed several accusations of accepting bribes and ‘casino gaming crimes’ against Michael Barlow. The same person has been working at Twin River as VP operations senior.
According to the indictment from December 12, Barlow has been accused of 30 felony counts together with two individuals, gambling vendor, Yehuda Amar, and business associate, Jill Feldman. Amar is charged for making payments to Barlow to secure subleases with numerous food court operators at Twin River venues, as well as supplying him with multiple business contracts.
Barlow and Amar used to be partners in multiple residential and commercial venues in Connecticut, resulting in Barlow’s $340k debt to Amar. To cover these debts, Barlow ensured vendors and contracts to Amar, who made a significant profit from all these deals. Amar and his associate, Feldman, failed to submit corporate tax returns in the state for the period between 2016-2018. Additionally, they failed to file a business income report and filed fraudulent personal income tax returns.
Accusations
Barlow has been accused of several manipulations. At the moment, he is charged with “four counts of accepting a bribe, three counts of gaining property under false pretenses, three counts of conspiracy to acquire property under false pretenses, and two counts of casino gaming crimes.“ He was put on trial but soon released with a $20k bail.
Meanwhile, Twin River announced that it had “cooperated fully with state authorities in the investigation process while noting that the one employee involved in this non-gaming matter is no longer employed by the company.”
Other Problems
Twin River is involved in a legal dispute with Rhode Island as the state awarded International Game Technology (IGT) with a 20-year extension deal to operate the state lottery and provide the most of the electronic gaming machines in the casino. As a reminder, Twin River has recently agreed with IGT rivals Scientific Games Corporation, Intralot, and UK Lottery provider Camelot to submit a joint venture offer for the state lottery contract.
Twin River has just announced that its chairman John Taylor left the casino after one decade in the company. The former chairman has been replaced with Soohyung Kim, founding partner of leading Twin River investor Standard General L.P.

I’ll never understand how some people who have it so good can do things like this but then again maybe they had to do things like this just to get where they’re at and it’s hard to just leave it all behind or bury it. It sucks because that’s got to be jail time and also if their VP is doing things like this somebody has...

Casino crime occurs regularly and it brings additional problems in the community. Looking forward to better suppression of illegal activity around the state...
