Woman Sues Her Nephew Over Huge Lottery Win

What follows is not your daily cock and bull story (pardon our French, but that there is a legit British expression, look it up) but a true tale of honest, hardworking people, a desire for fortune and – a complete and utter nut-fest once big money sets in.

So, here's the deal – when you're a mild-mannered old lady whose favorite nephew serves as a lucky charm throughout your latter stages of life, you don't just cut him out of your life via legal proceedings once you're about to be showered with dollar bills. It's just morally offensive and inexcusable and yet – that's just what Barbara Reddick, Nova Scotia, Canada resident, did.

It was a bogus idyllic scene during the presentation of the massive $1.2 million promotional check to Barbara and her cousin, 19-year old Tyrone MacInnis – the two were posing for the cameras smiling, though the smile on Tyrone's face was more sincere, as Barbara was surprised to see him there when she arrived. Turns out, she has put his name on the winning lottery ticket that she hit the jackpot with. To clarify, Barbara bought the ticket and put both of their names on it, as she always thought her cousin Tyrone brought her luck.

And that he did - $1.2 million in luck! But, when the two met to collect the prize, she confronted him in the car park and asked him to confess that she has already told him that she never promised to split her winnings with him. Tyrone refused point blank and now, Barbara is threatening to sue him over his alleged false claims that she said the winnings will be split in two. “Tyrone is getting nothing from me,” she underlined her intentions.

Mrs. Reddick (57), who is a retired military maintenance technician, tells her part of the story: “He’s always lucky with his draws, right? I said ‘Well, put your name on the ticket and you’ll be my good luck charm.’ I didn’t say split. I never mentioned money at all,” and adds that, when they phoned her to let her know that the two of them won, she exclaimed: “No, I won! It was my ticket.”

She continues: “I would have given him $150,000. Listen, Tyrone was the son that I never had. Me and Tyrone — ask anybody — we’re very, very close.” When Tyrone voiced his opinion that he should get half the amount of win, she refused: “Tyrone is getting nothing from me. It’s just for the principle. We were so close. He broke my heart. He broke it. People go crazy when it comes to money. I’ll never speak to him. In this lifetime or the next.”
