Back Younger Players in Lithuania Opt Out of Self-Exclusion, While Cases Among Women Rise

In 2020, the number of younger Lithuanian demographics self-excluding from gambling activities declined. However, the self-exclusion rates have increased for women in the 31-40 years old group.

This was stated by Lithuanian Gambling Supervisory Authority who noted that 17,348 people in total have self-excluded themselves from gambling in 2020.

A Rise From Last Year

Number of self-exclusion increased overall compared to 2019…

…although Lithuania’s Supervisory Authority did not publish the total number of self-excluded cases in 2019.

This is the first time since collecting this data began in 2017 that the amount of self-excluded players aged 18-20 dropped - from 9% to 6%.

Supervisory Authority said in a statement that “This small change is a possible sign that younger people are starting to look at their gambling more responsibly and that an aid measure such as a limitation on gambling is not necessary for them.”

The Ratios Between Groups

The majority of self-excluded players are still those aged between 21 and 30 and 31 and 40. The 20-31 age group also dropped from 52% to 48%, while the 31 to 40 group rose from 36% to 42%.

90% of all self-excluded gamblers were men. In 2017, 93% of self-excluded players were men and women made up only 7%.

In addition, Lithuania’s legislature, the Seimas, published the State Budget for 2021, revealing that the government expects to take in €20.7m in lottery and gambling taxes and fees.

More Entries Into Lithuanian Market

Slot developer Betixon has recently entered the gaming market of Lithuania thanks to their deal with Betsson’s Betsafe and Supercasino brands who operate in this country.

This producer makes games that are mobile-first but also available on desktop and are likely to be popular with local players.

Lior Cohen, co-founder, said “Betsson is one of the biggest names in the business and it is a real honour to see our suite of mobile-first slot games launch to players in Lithuania and Estonia through its Betsafe and Supercasino brands."
