Coinbase and Circle work best if your looking for a place that'll pay the value of your coins directly to your bank account.

Otherwise Localbitcoins also works if your willing to work with 3rd party sellers.

I choose the latter because then I can choose how I want to cash out my coin, I can get an amazon gift code, sometimes for above market value, get cash sent to my prepaid cards, or even a western union sent to me.

Yet it's all a matter of choice.  Most choose Circle because they offer bank account and debit card deposit options.

Bit Coin can be a bit complex at first, understanding the network confirmation jargon and how bit coins are transferred.  Yet once you do a few transactions it's pretty easy to understand.
