I read the other day that Chicago has had the gloomiest, grayest winter in 30 years. Right when I think I just cant take another cold winters day, Mother Nature lends a gentle reminder that spring is officially here!
She likes to tease with warm enough temperatures to have windows open and the thermostat turned to the “off” position. No sooner did I do that when I woke up to snow falling. It’s the battle of the seasons underway.
As spring wages the war on winter there is the roller coaster effect of cold verse warm. Not to mention the emotional tug a war. One day I am anxious to plant flowers in the yard and sit on the front porch. The next day I want to sit by a cozy fire with a blanket and read a book.
In writing this I look out the window and see the blanket of snow, when suddenly I see a Robin Red Breast land on the fence. He is the reminder that yes spring is indeed on its way! Soon the brittle branches on trees will have buds. The grass will turn green and the sunflowers will be sprouting!
Back are the birdies singing that familiar melody. Ah, the promise of sunshine and the birth of natures best landscape. Thank you Mother Nature for such a beautiful season that awaits us!
