  • Only yesteday did I have a chance to finally watch "Ex Machina" and boy, did I enjoy the movie. Certainly one of the better movies I've seen in a long time, and it left a deep imression on me.

Needless to mention that I've stated obsessing about AI some time ago, especially regarding the challenges and consequences humans would need to face when it becomes reality. Personally, I support the argument that it is very possible AI will get out of our control at one moment, and the question is what will happen then. Theoretically, we would become obsolete rather qucikly.

Has anyone seen the movie? Did you like it? And what is your opinion on AI? Are we safe? Uh, so many questions! cheesy

  • Yes I have seen the movie.  It was amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed it and I intend watching it again so I can look for things I didn't know the first time I watched it (don't want to give anything away).  Set me thinking too and I think you're right; how long before we lose control!

  • No i have not watched it but i have watched movies with AI. It is very scary to think that it could be possible in the future.

  • I've seen the film, a couple of times actually, and I liked it a lot. But I'm more of the opinion that we ourselves will merge somehow with the machines, as there's a subtle, but growing tendency to shun everything organic and embrace synthetic. I know it's a controversial subject for some people, imagine if we could be free of all bodily deficiencies and become completely synonimous with the mind alone.

  • Merging with machines would be a key survival component.

I think that AI is something we are building not necessarily to be merged with. It's a result of a technological progress. We already have Deep Blue, but it can only play chess, and nothing else.

Though we already have signs of general intelligence, it's just a beginning of course, in DQN. It's a machine that is able to learn to play different video games from a scratch! It has no idea what it needs to do, they describe it as a new born that has just opened their eyes. And then, it actually masters the games in only a few hours. Of course, there are limits to video games, but it is still quite amazing.

And not to mention that we still don't know much about consciousness, let alone to program it. Or perhaps it doesn't need to be programmed. :)

Well, there are surely more questions than answers.

  • https://youtu.be/W0_DPi0PmF0  My son and i talked about AI and he showed me this video. Creepy.

  • Not sure why the you tube link did not paste but the AI said she wanted to destroy humans. You can see it on you tube.

  • I have seen the movie and I think it was very interesting,it is one thing in the science fiction films that those make people think future and technology more, what that can cause. There is a place for a criticism for example stereotypes that always go on and on in this kind of films but I am not going to go deeper in that this time. Watch yourself and find out! kiss

  • The video is creepy.  You can see the lack of any emotion in the eyes.

  • And she doesn't blink! That freaked me out. :D

There's a great TV show Humans, so I recommend it.

  • A feew years left and we will live in a book of the great Isaac Asimov . I am sure :)

  • I can't wait that day when AI will be build!

  • I have not seen the film, but I have read a few articles in the news and in magazines about AI. I think it is interesting and scary to think about the need for human labor becoming obsolete. Will those whose only resource is selling their labor, which is most of us, be thrown under the bus at some point? I am cynical and intimidated by  this, because I do not see altruism towards mankind as being the prime motivator behind the world of business employment and commerce. And what will it mean psychologically and socially, most humans derivine meaning and a sense of self worth and community from their occupationanal activity. How will we feel about ourselves and function as a society when robots and computers are doing all the work? Of course the AI God or monster we create might just decide we are worthless and do away with us all. In which case one can only hope it is a swift and merciful termination of our existence as a species.
