The male swallow has just discovered that the female bird has met with a fatal injury. A car had hit her as she swooped too low across the road for her safety. The male here, is thinking of a way to save his sweetheart!
He fetches her food and attends to her with compassion and love.
The female has gone still. The male swallow couldn't save her life. He tries to move the dead bird - a last gasp effort we've come to identify as a human trait.
Realizing that his love is no more, the adoring male swallow cries out loud.
Finally, reconciled to his fate the male swallow steps back, standing by his beloved's body with sorrow and sadness in his heart.
