  • Can anyone name another country where you can live illegally, work illegally, get a drivers license, get state/federal aid, never pay income taxes, have the state spend hundreds of millions of dollars to translate all state paperwork into 10 languages and now attend college free?!.

"In a major victory for immigrant advocates, a key state Senate committee cleared the most significant obstacle to a bill that would give college students who are illegal immigrants access to public aid for the first time."

I am not only talking about people who speak Spanish, in LA we have them all from Asian countries, former Russian countries, Middle East countries, etc.
This is one of the reasons our budget is in the toilet!

  • The immigrants were one of the factors that pushed the American economy forward for decades so I guess the knife has two edges... There should be a limit to all this spending though.

  • I agree Nan,my grandparents came here from Italy and my Dad from Ireland and they had to work for whatever they had...nothing was free exclamation I' m all for education and for public aid...if need be but with our economy is in the toilet now and it's not the best time. What ever happened to working your way thru school huh  There's a  idea
  • Of course, I understand the plight of people wanting a better life for themselves and their children; that's why I came here.
And yes, immigrants built this country into what it is today; Irish, Italian, Chinese, etc.
I agreed with the filmmakers in "A Day Without A Mexican" they aren't taking our jobs, they are doing the jobs very few want to.
I am complaining about the free-loaders.
I see certain Slavic immigrants who are drive $100k Mercedes but use food stamps for groceries.
I had to drop out of college because I was a documented exchange student but couldn't get financial aid; I had to get a job.
All I had to do was lose my passport and, voila, a free ride.
The biggest problem is there is no repercussions for students who get their financial aid and then drop out of school; which is quite high as reported from LA community colleges.
They don't have a SSN, so you can't get the money from their work or tax returns.
Doesn't sound like a good idea to me, unless they served in the military for a few years first.

  • My daughter just moved to her first apt. sad
She's starting her 3rd year of college and guess what......

SHE HAS TO PAY FOR IT ALL HERSELF.
