  • Most casinos have went to coinless operations on their slot machines. This we are all aware of.
So then, you get to the end of your game credits, decide to go, and hit the cashout button for a ticket of a whopping .04 cents. You toss it aside, throw it in the trash or just leave it in the machine, as it is not even worth waiting in the lines to cash it in. After all it is only .04 cents right?  After we lose good money in the machine, it seems silly to worry about our last few pennies.  Do we have any idea how much the casino is making on people, thousands a day, who do just that? I've found cashout vouchers for even quarter or higher just left by the last player. I say why give that last bit to the casino, cash in that voucher, or give it to someone who will. I saw a lady once walking around and collecting these unwanted vouchers. I followed her to the cashier, ever so discreetly, and she had a huge pile of these things. The cashier ended up handing her over $20 in cash. Now I would never go collecting them, but my point is that these things do add up, and I dont want the casino to get anymore of our money than they already have.

  • Once again my trip last week was no different in reference to the cashout vouchers found laying around the land casino.  I always take my cashout voucher. Where I struggle is when they are to small to bother to wait in line for so I end up bringing them home. By the time I go back to the casino I might have misplaced them. I need a better system to make sure I keep all them together so if I do bring them home I will have them to take back with me next trip. Just for information, these vouchers do expire after a certain number of days. Usually 90.                        PMM2008

  • Vouchers also feed a part of psychology that benefits the casino.  If you have a heavy cup of coins you are more likely to cashout then slips of paper you can reload into the machine.  The less if feels, looks, tastes, etc. like cash, the more likely people will let it go.

  • Very good point Dr...very good indeed.

  • I have a stack of vouchers in my purse all ranging in under a dollar. I never redeem them and always end up throwing them out. I would imagine the casino makes quite a profit at the end of the year in unredeemed vouchers.

I think most vouchers are good for up to a year. Imagine if we saved them all. We would have quite a piggy bank saved. Hmmm maybe i will start throwing in vouchers in my coffee can instead of spare change!

  • Yea, the casino makes alot of money on people not cashing in those small tickets.  After I have several and I finally take them back and cash them in I am surprised at the amount I have. One time I had almost $12. Now it's not a great deal but it most certainly will get me a few spins on my favorite penny video game Dean MArtins Wild Party. Never know...I could turn in into something bigger....
    It's your money....Keep it.....

  • Thanks for making me rethink these vouchers PMM, i really am gonna start saving them. Hold off for a year, right before they expire and cash them all in...i bet i'll have quite a a little bankroll!
