Crazy Things Our Parents Told Us So We Would Behave!

Hiya Guys and Dolls,

With Mother's day nearing i have gone down memory lane with some of the outrageous things my mom would tell me to tow the line!

When i was 8-9 years old i would play right outside the house with the neighborhood kids. To make sure i didn't stray and was in before it got dark she would say " When you see the street lamps start to flicker that means the boogey man is waking up and when the light is completely on he comes out and roams the streets looking for kids.

Well it worked like a charm because i would watch those street lamps like a hawk. One time i was like four houses down and we started playing DIngDong Ditch and and i looked up and saw that light shining and ran as fast as i could home with my heart beating out of my chest!

Another crazy thing was telling me never to eat the watermelon seeds cuz if i did i would grow a watermelon in my tummy. One day we were on a picnic and i accidentally swallowed a seed and fretted for hours looking at my tummy to see if it was growing.

My mom saw me acting weird and asked me what is wrong and i said omg mom i swallowed a watermelon seed and now i gonna grow a watermelon in my tummy! She was like oh no that won't happen mom was just teasing. Needless to say she could not convince me it wasn't true and it took me a day or two to realize i was going to be ok! 

Any crazy things your parents told you so you behave?

my parent split before I was born (yup, i was a 'surprise' lol)
anyway, my dad lived hours away in the city
I was down visiting, and said I was going over to the park
he told me to walk down to the lights, like 6 blocks down, to cross, walk back down to it..the park was across the street
im like, 'um, dad? I DROVE here, I think I can cross the road'...lol, he never got I grew up


my grandma told me eating raw potatoes (loved em) would make worms grow in my stpmach, and that gum sat there for 7 years if i ate it

Lmao, Lips I was told the same thing, I sure as hell believed it too, one thing my mom was famous for and that was "wait til your father gets home" whenever we weren't behaving, til one day, something I wanted or wanted to do and her answer was no, I think I might have been pouting or wineing about it so I said back with, okay ill wait for dad to get home then im telling on yoooouuuu.. folded my arms, pouted my lip, and plopped in dads chair, I can remember my mother trying to hold back a laugh...

pick your nose and you'll pop your brain, and swallowing watermelon seeds will grow watermelons in your belly.. both those had me doing right

I remember crying and my Mum said to me, if the wind blows and you're pulling that face, your face will stay like that forever.  If I did cry and I was outside, I would try and cry without pulling a face

When I was little, mums always told me and my friends that kids get a big, furry tail if they drink coffee. I guess I was so scared back then (because I heard it from more than one mum) that I'd become an object of mockery with a furry tail if I tried it, that even now as a grown up I don't drink coffee at all!

My parents also used to tell me that about drinking coffee. it would be nice to have a nice furry tail.... like a cat.

I remember that my mom always told me that I need to eat everything on my plate and that I need to behave or bad people (whoever they are) will take me away. It didn't work.

I remember while growing up my ma would always tell me that if I swallowed my gum it will stay in my tummy for 7 years. I remember always being afraid to swallow and still to this day if ever in a pinch I swallow my gum I feel guilty about it!
