  • Hiya Guys and Dolls,

I just read a story about a woman jogger who was attacked by a pack of raccoon in Washington State. She had over 100 wounds, bites and scratches and had to be rushed to hospital. Luckily she had her dog with her who was able to scare them off but only after 20-30 seconds of attacking this poor woman.

I haven't seen too many raccoon in our neighborhood but we do have skunks! These cute but smelly critters roam around the the streets after dark and a few have been so bold as to walk along the sidewalks in broad day light. My dogs have gotten sprayed more than once.

Do you have any critters in your neighborhood?

    Lips

  • Only my neighbors  wink

  • Oh my do tell!  laugh_out_loud laugh_out_loud laugh_out_loud

  • Oh nothing, just seems they live at night, doing all kind of strange things, like doing their garden in the middle of the night, strange sounds coming out of their shed at 3am. And at daytime nobody sees them, like their some kind of night critters, or maybe vampires. Talked to my wife several times if i would change myself into Blade and ring their bell, see how they react...........lol

  • Luckily, I don't have such problems, no raccoon, no skunks, nowhere near. smiley But I gotta agree with Johan; well, I prefer these animals to be my neighbors.

  • The skunks are so funny. When they hear a noise their tail goes straight up ready to spritz you. Gotta run for the hills when you see a skunk in defense mode!

Now this is really sick. I was the critter running around the neighborhood this morning. There was a shoe box near a garage. As I walked closer to it I saw what was inside. It was a dead cat. Someone had put this poor thing in the box that was entirely too small, no lid and left it outside. OMG WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!?!?!?

  • We still have stray dogs in the streets of Bucharest, thousands of them. It's a problem that every mayor that we've elected for the past 20 years promised to solve but none managed to.

Two people got killed in the last few years by those dogs and quite a few get bitten every day.

I didn't have any problems with them though, apart from a few incidents when some dogs chased me while I was riding on my bicycle.

Imagine this: me on my bicycle on a rather steep climb in the city with four big dogs suddenly barking at my feet. I have to say I reached the summit of that climb faster than Lance Armstrong in his glory days cheesy

Then I turned around and went downhill at 40 miles per hour, the dogs were confused at that point laugh_out_loud

  • I live on 3 acres in the SE US, with woods right behind my house for 2 acres of it, and you'd think I'd see lots of critters.  But I don't.  It's actually disappointing, 'cus I love wild critters.

'Course now, my Mom did open the deck box we feed the outside cats in a few weeks ago & found a young oppossum!  I'd like to see more of those around here than I do.  (they eat poisonous snakes & don't get rabies)  But I don't see raccoons or skunks.  We have poisonous snakes & bugs, tho. eeeeeewwwww - just thinking of those things creeps me out.

  • That poor woman who was attacked by racoons.  That must have been really scary for her.

Poor Johnny too being chased by strays, that must have been scary.

Loads of foxes running around here.  Some are very bold and come out during the day.  Sometimes they sound like a baby crying which can be quite disconcerting.

It seems we have similar problems in last two decades Johny. I dont ride a bicycle though, but i do walk my dog and way too many times I get attacked by stray dogs, most probably even more often than other neighbors because they tend to be more agressive towards other dogs that are not members of their pack.

Im lucky though that stray dogs are usually scared of my dog when he starts barking on them, but I just wonder what will happen when that luck abandons me one day.

And there is an enormous pidgeon population, they've become something like rats here in Belgrade scavenging around trash cans.

Maybe it's because I don't have a dog but I don't see many stray dogs. I walk around the city a lot since I don't drive and I don't use public transport much. Anyway, I'm sure that their number is much smaller than before. I agree completely about pigeons, they often play "chicken" with me, flying right into my face waiting for me to move away.
  • ive seen pesky rabbits and neighbors but no raccoons  smiley

  • Nothing here in Coachella Valley desert but lizards and an occasional roadrunner laugh_out_loud

If that's your dog in your avatar, he's very handsome!!  Don't you guys carry pepper spray or something to ward off aggressive dogs?  And don't your cities do neutering of stray dogs?
  • We have feral cats all over the neighborhood. Some are living under my house and my poor little dog Rosie smelled them under the kitchen area when we moved in last month and she won't cross the kitchen. She goes all the way around the house by another route while any of us or the other dog cross the kitchen. She has to skirt one little edge of the kitchen to get outside, so she scurries through that part.

  • Its his father before he lost one ear in a fight

I heard they are doing something but i dont really see much results outside downtown. There are too many pets dumped on the streets by owners who cant take care of them anymore in addition to a large population of stray ones. Its a problem not so easily solvable.
  • All we have here are squirrels, hawks and the occasional fox.
I guess I can handle that!! smiley

surprise surprise thumbs_up I'd love it!!  party tongue
  • I guess living in a little town I see alot of woodland critters.  Just in the past 2 days I have seen a jackrabbit, racoon family of 3, and an armadillo.  Cows getting out of their pasture and on the roads is common.  We also have opossums, skunks, foxes, deer (which you have to watch for because the will tear up a car) and the sometimes seen coyote.  I hate wild animals because I have a morbid fear of rabies so to me it is more of a curse than a blessing.
