  • I went to the grocery store last night with a list longer then Santa's beard.I needed 2 carts one for my meat the other for my bread flour etc........I purchased all of my items then moved to check out to begin the process praying my $300 was enough to pay for the food.I probably should have dressed better (i was in sweats and a tee shirt)because the clerk looked surprised when pulled out cash to pay for my food and had to reapply the taxes that would have came off with foodstamps. The clerk was very rude before hand actually tossing my things without care, like my bread was under some of my meat and my eggs were almost thrown over. After i paid for my things i held up the line by checking my eggs and bread to the dismay of the clerk.I walked out of the store smh at how she stayed with a job when people were begging for employment.I also didn't want to make a scene. What would you have done huh

  • Oh rena... I smh thinking anyone could treat you like that... you are such a good soul. As for the obviously unhappy cashier I think I might have had to say quietly and sincerely at the end of this scene, "Young lady, you should never judge a book by its cover." Of course you always think of something to say when it is too late...

This reminded me of a time when I used to work in a Radio Shack store and a man came in every other day and spent a couple of hours looking at things and reading packages, reaching into his torn shirt pocket to pull things out and look at them or make notes on them. The other salespeople thought he was a bit daft and avoided him as a waste of time.

I on the other hand waited on him and did everything I could for him. This went on for quite a while with him buying a little this and that... it finally came out that he was retired and just needed to be out of the house and loved all things electronic.

One day he came in and told me he had made up his mind and proceeded to buy everything anyone would ever want to put in their car... probably the biggest sale I ever made. And he reached into that torn pocket with all the things stuffed in it to bursting and pulled out the money, paying me in cash for over $12,000 in merchandise.

The tale surprisingly didn't end there. He came back about 2 weeks later with a gift for me to thank me. It was a hand stitched long sleeved gorgeous dress he had made himself. I will never forget that and it always reminds me not to judge by appearances.

  • These kinds of things make me furious Rena and I'm a very calm person. You handled it well though, I don't know what I would have done. But we have to thank Katt for the inspiring story, that one should be told to children in school.

  • I can understand bad work days.I do everything i can to put food on the table including putting up with a demanding boss who has fired me more times to count out of the 9yrs i have been with her.Its funny how we even one time almost came to a knock down drag out fight which her husband stepped in between. She really has a bad ocd about everything wanting it to the t.One time i was fired by her and she hired another person who kept taking things.Shes an artist and she sends me to the stores and pawn shops to buy real gold earrings and things for the dolls she makes. Her husband called me 2weeks later after he came home from a business trip and asked me why am i not at work.I was stunned that he hadn't heard.I told him i was fired and seeking employment.I also asked for a letter of recognition for my next job.
He told me in an exasperated voice,I pay the bills here and if i didn't fire you i expect to see u at 9am sharp.I am paid good for the couple of hrs a week work even having done some office work for him when his wife was on a rampage.I think we have a love hate relationship.I'm sure we will have another fight its inevitable. The moral of the story is u never know what a person is going thru and i can forgive.

  • There was a time when I was very quiet and took the abuse given by these "customer service" people. I had enough at one point and now I don't hold back. The most recent was at the doctor. The receptionist was very abrupt and it rubbed me the wrong way. I told her that I thought she was rude. Just as we should consider the day they're having they should consider ours. After all, it is their job to provide "customer service". The subject just makes me so mad. You did handle it well rena. Holding up the line to check your items was the cherry on top. I couldn't have done it better myself!  laugh_out_loud

  • Yes Rena, you handled it very well...I probably on the other hand would have egged her and asked if she wanted bacon to go with her eggs!!!
    LOL laugh_out_loud

  • Rena.. i work in a grocery store and i am the front-end manager (i the dern boss over the cashiers).. every cashier in my storeis taught to be more the courtious and respectful, to go over that extra to help anyone, we get constant compliments on how we treat people with intrgerity and patience.. its the way i run things, and have told my cashiers to always treat people how you would want to be treated in a grocery, thier hard earned money is being spent here, our motto is more for your money (in all ways). We also have alot of people tell us stories about how they are treated so badly by rudeness and what a difference our store makes. Now another thing that happens which i cannot understand for the life of me..My store is chain, other employees from the other stores come in here and want to treat us so rudely and disrespectful..i ask myself i wonder if they do this in other stores, or if even their own store, we are co-workers how can you treat your co-worker that way, (they make big scenes, act with nastiness and embarrass cashiers with remarks like we don't do this in our store) i wanna say goto your store and act like this then.. why do you come here? But we smile and think my goodness life must be really rough or sour for you. I've been to other stores in my area the cashiers barely even look at you let alone speak, im so puzzled as to why?

I am so sorry this happened to you Rena, thats really sad when it is so easy to treat people good, it makes me sick inside... we go that extra mile in our store for everyone.. im so glad you have the heart and soul of a divine angel.

  • I've done my fair share of customer service in retail and in banking. It takes the patience of a saint. If it's not the right job for you then do something else. It shouldn't be so hard to be nice unless it's a miserable place to work. It sounds like you run things very smoothly Imagin. A happy employee is a courteous one.

  • where i go shopping at you have to bag your own groceries. I shop there once a month sometimes more because they are so much more cheaper than the grocery store by our house.but i do there when i only need a thing or two like milk and bread and if they ever put something on top of my bread i would have asked for a new one. you were way to nice. I buy wonder bread and once you smush it it stays smushed.I would of said in a nice way that i wanted a different bread and that am paying good money for it.thanks.:)
