  • I was just sitting here thinking about the most dangerous jobs out there. I was thinking about it because my husband works in the most dangerous prison yard in Arizona, he is a correction officer. I don't think he gets paid nearly enough, for how dangerous it is, but it pay the bills.

Anyways it got me a thinkin'...what other dangerous jobs are out there? I looked it up and I found this list.

    The 10 most dangerous jobs
    Occupation Fatalities per 100,000

    Timber cutters 117.8

    Fishers 71.1

    Pilots and navigators 69.8

    Structural metal workers 58.2

    Drivers-sales workers 37.9

    Roofers 37

    Electrical power installers 32.5

    Farm occupations 28

    Construction laborers 27.7

    Truck drivers 25

Source: Bureau of Labor Statistics; survey of occupations with minimum 30 fatalities and 45,000 workers in 2002

    .

    What do you guys think?

    :-*

  • I don't have any statistics on past fatalities...but I would think jobs involving nuclear/radioactivity/biohazards are up there on the list of dangerous occupations.

  • Okay, do they include military in those statistics or are the military jobs separate?

  • When i watch deadliest catch, nothing in this world can change my mind on how dangerous that is in that berring sea. Also i beleive any job where you deal with dangerous unpredictable people like for say your husbands' job would be the second most dangerous.

  • I think the Deadliest Catch, is truly the most dangerous job out there too. That sea is brutal. Many fisherman lose their lives out there.

I think the military is separate Chilly. I do think that is a very dangerous job as well...All of those brave men and women risk their lives for ours everyday..That should definately be on top of the list.

My husbands job is very scary Imagin., not too long ago a correction officer was transporting an inmate, and was stabbed in the temple 14 times. Every night when my husband leaves, I pray he will come home safe. If he is not on time coming home, I always have horrible thoughts...He loves his job though.

  • ...kinda off topic, but this thread made me think of a TV show I like to watch on the Discovery Channel:

  • i love dirty jobs that show is great, but can imagine fishers is a very dangerous job those programs they got on discovery is very intense not just like going to the nearest lake lol

  • I love Dirty Jobs,

The Discovery Channel is good watchin'....LOVE IT!

    :-*

  • Here in OR/WA we have a lot of loggers, and I know plenty of young newbies going out there thinking it's easy fun money, and getting hurt first day on the job.  So I completely agree with that.

I like Dirty Jobs too, the worm one makes me laugh when I think of it lol

Oh and that guys job in the brick factory, where the entire job is standing in front of the machines watching the dials.  WOW how boring.... but it's probably perfect for them, it would drive me crazy.
