Mr Kennedy, only recently have I been paying attention to your posts. Knowing I'm not perfect, do you possibly have a few issues that you are working on? I mean some of your posts, are a bit "OUT THERE".  In the thread I created (adult jokes), do you believe there is humor to any of your posts, or this thread you've decided to create, this is border line wierd!!
You seem to have been here at LCB, longer than me by the # of your posts. Has anyone ever questioned you about this?

Fair enough.  Has anyone questioned me about this?  Well, Lips hinted at it in other threads.
Do you believe there is humor to any of your posts? Yes much of my humor is sarcasm, but since it is your thread (adult jokes) I won't post there anymore, respectfully.

or this thread you've decided to create, this is border line wierd!!  Yes, it sounds weird to me on the surface at first but the subject is actually very serious.  I will explain further.

Subject: Do Rich People Enjoy Seeing Poor People With Luxuries?

There is a belief among some that when they pass by an area with run-down housing/apartments and see a Luxury vehicle (for example) or see someone with barely wearable clothes and wearing a Rolex or some really expensive accessory, that the people in question should not have those things, and really get irate.  With the economy the way it is in the United States right now, emotions are high about this subject.

I'm not sure what the question means, but to me it seems to mean maybe this:

A rich person gives someone in squalor a lavish vacation to Vegas.  Do they enjoy seeing the poor person living out this luxury?  Probably, but, why?  

Consider the poor person really needed help to keep their house from foreclosure. And that the rich person knows that, but gets more reward out of granting the lavish vacation than providing an equal amount of help in the way of stopping the foreclosure.  

What kind of enjoyment is that, I wonder?  

Oh, I see you've posted again, and my interpretation doesn't seem to fit...but there it is.  But the other interpretation you present, no, they don't enjoy it and they seem to get mad if someone pays for their steak with food stamps.

It maybe/or not published these type of stories, but it does happen.  There is a show called Extreme Makeover in which they do exactly that. (Furnish a person usually who cannot afford it a brand new custom built house)

Sounds cruel on the surface, but not impossible.  Don't know (or read) of anyone who may have experienced it.

Technically, a person could buy a Filet Mignon (at the grocery store) with food stamps (as long as it is a food item.)  Why should the food stamp user be politically correct?
Moreover, it is not uncommon for a person to buy an extravagant gift for themselves at the expense of a needed item, like a utility bill or mortgage payment.

People should be able to spend their money or snap food benefits (new word for foodstamps)the way they want, even if we think or someone else thinks it may be frivolous, or cruel, or incorrect.

I think it depends on the individual more than anything else. I think that people born with a silver spoon in their mouth are more likely to be more snooty. Why? They never came from the school of hard knocks and may be more inclined to turn their nose up at the less fortunate.

If you suddenly came into a windfall fortune then you have more compassion because you have been there, done that. So instead of wondering how, where or why you have this luxury they may say "good for you"!

I have always thought that hard times in life no matter what they are make us better people. That's just my opinion. But then again i am not labeling all rich people born this way as snooty. That would be prejudice.

You know Joseph, it really never occured to me that the rich even care what the poor do.

I mean that they are rich, probably consumes alot of their time managing the money they have, or spending it or even earning it. I don't think that leaves alot of time for them to waste disparaging the poor people.

Lips you sound like you would be a very generous person if you had a lot of money.  Oprah says money only magnifies what's on the inside, good or bad. (A small crook with millions would become a huge crook)

I remember hearing on talk radio once a business owner complaining about the empty busses she would see frequently passing by (that her tax dollars should not pay for them), just got me to thinking about this subject.

I don't care what people do with however much money they have UNLESS it affects me and it often does.

I used to have a patient, on welfare and food stamps, who came to the office once a year for a physical (paid by my taxes) and all her shots to travel abroad for 4 months (paid by my taxes).  She wore a diamond ring that must of been 5 carats. 


THAT ticked me off.  I couldn't afford to take off work (I worked, she didn't) to travel abroad for months at the expense of the taxpayers.



I would say it also irritated me when I used to play Bingo with my hard earned money and it seemed those who waltzed in and played with their welfare check always hit the jackpots.

I agree with all but maybe not the first paragraph.  I was born fairly wealthy and learned very early on the joy of giving.  Just the joy of it, not for gratitude or praise, just made me feel good.

As an adult, one of my college age employees was saving for new tires.  I 'borrowed' her car, went to buy her new tires and had the store put a red bow on each wheel.  She was so happy, but I was just as happy, if not more.

Economy hit and I can't do that anymore (hopefully not forever) and I miss the giving.  Now, I bake for church funerals... to do something.

Gah... sounds like I'm patting myself on the back.  I'm NOT. 

Look at Oprah... she gets such joy out of giving.

You seem like you would be a great friend, Lips.  Open minded.  Sees both sides.  Not opinionated to the point of only seeing YOUR side, but still like a good debate.
