Family nudity....thoughts?

Back when I used to do family therapy the subject of family nudity would come up.  In other words, is it okay for parents to be naked in front of their kids and does the family do things together in the nude?  (Nude here in no way means anything sexual going on.)

Some examples include:
1.  The family swimming/ hot-tubbing together nude.
2.  Mom/ Dad freely leaving the shower nude in plain view.
3.  Coming out of the bedroom nude to check on dinner, get laundry, etc.
4.  Urinating or having a bowel movement with the restroom door open.

The research tells us that nude-togetherness among family members had no adverse effect on development or sexuality.

The lack of family nude exposure seemed to produce trauma later in life when the adult child had to see their parents nude for the first time in a care-giver setting.

Your thoughts?  I would be very interested.

Lips...okay, I am getting out the journals and text books for this.  Yes, I think OVER exposure to nudity does NOT effect being sexual healthy later.  However, here is an issue.  What if boy, 13, is sexually aroused by his nude mother.  Not that mom is being a perv, just the 13 year old see her "parts" and nature takes it course.  Does this cause mal-functioning sexually later???

In other words, would you want to marry a man whose first sexual turn on was over his mother (or sister)?  I don't think there is enough research to answer this one....that I know of.

Shelli, that is the counter-arguement to free-for-all family nudity.  Yes, family nudity may be "okay."  But, as a psychologist I cannot but wonder what happens to a young male whose sexual awakening revolves around his mother or sister.  And what does this do to his future marriage?  I have been doing some research on this topic and have discovered there is very little material.

I guarantee you if my sons see me walking around naked they will have permanent brain damage or wish they were permanently blind

I agree...just because one is aroused does not mean there is a present, or future, problem. 

Yes, I have read some on that theory:  Breast feed males grow up to very much enjoy suckling their partner's breasts.  Here is the research problem with that:  It becomes VERY difficult to measure non-breast feed males "time" at the nipple when they are adults.  And also, what qualifies an adult male to be a "breast man?"  How the heck do you measure that?  So, I have to agree with your brilliant assumption.

Now, to get REALLY controversial!  There is more evidence that BAD potty training causes sexual mal-functioning than family nudity!  Thoughts on that one, Lips???

ME push the envelope!  ...you should talk, Lips!  You and I are both from the "push the envelope school!"

You and I should go into practice together!  You are very, very right.  IF the potty training parent is TOO anxious, it has long lasting effects on the kids. 

If parents are pushing potty training, getting very angry, very frustrated, yelling, etc...it really screws a kid up...or at least has the potential to.

when adam and eve were created - they were naked -they were also without sin. then they had sinned by partaking in the fruit of knowledge - now trapped forever in a life powered by right and wrong, good and evil, and rich and poor. it was then their relationship with God became fear instead of it's original unconditional love. and out of fear and shame they covered themselves.

and so...what's my point? ummm...i forgot...i honestly can't remember
