Hiya Guys and Dolls,
I got up this morning and went to Star Bucks to treat myself to a cup of good coffee. As i was driving i made a stop at the gas station. "Dock of the Bay" came on the radio. I have heard this classic many times....but this morning it got to me. Songs have a way of doing that to us sometimes.
My first thought was to write a post about this song and the more i thought about it the more ridiculous i thought it was so i dismissed the idea altogether. I got back in my car and headed to Star Bucks. Flipped the stations around as i usually do. When i got to the window to place my order i turned the radio down. I went to the window to pay and waited for my coffee.
As i sat there i turned the volume up on my radio. There it was again.......Dock of the Bay. Now this isn't a common song to hear must less hear it twice in a 10 minute span!
I am not sure what it meant, but something told me not to dismiss the idea about writing about it!
Maybe it is just one of those days where i want to sit on the dock bay........watching the tide.......wasting time.
Lyrics to songs inspire us in so many ways.....this was one of those moments.
Have ya just wanted to sit on a the dock of the bay and waste your time away? Or heard a song and felt it had a meaning especially for you?

OMG what kind of day is this? Lips, you may have read about how in 1988 my fiance was shot and killed. And how he keeps popping up (ghost thread) in these coincidental ways. And how I'm still effin in love with the guy. Rick.
Rick went AWOL from the Navy and I disappeared with him around Christmas 1987. We ended up in San Pedro, California. Rick was a great guitar player, I sorta play guitar and sing. We were at this place I think it's 5 palms or something. There by the ocean, with lots of rocks to sit on. We were playing guitar and singing and some people came up and started listening to us. Neither of us knew any songs really to sing together, but Rick started playing - Dock of the Bay, and I sang along. And it turns out one of the people sitting there listening was a relative of the guy who had written that song, and she was very moved that we had played it there for her. And we were very moved, too. There we were, lost, broke, but in Cali at the ocean and people LIKED us and we felt like rock stars! I'll never forget it. Thanks so much for your post!
I'm gonna go cry now...but it's a good cry. -

Aww chilly what wonderful memories you must carry with you.
Lips, how funny that your song played twice. I feel like sittin' on the dock of a bay dreamin' about my sweetheart..............
We met years ago and were friends. We lost touch and reconnected. Back in the day he sang me a song that I will never forget. It plays on the radio at very coincidental moments. It will Always & Forever make me smile. -

Oh many times Lips.. many many times.. i think i posted a song by sean hayes - powerful stuff, some can really hit us in the heart and soul and take us away, take us to that place we wanna be, ain;t it funny how we listen, look up and breathe with a sigh, wishing life could be exactly how the song sings it...
what inspired the song "dock of the bay" was Otis Redding was going to perform at the Fillmore in San Francisco, he was at a boathouse in Sausalito across the San Francisco Bay, which is where he got his lyrics, i watch the ships come in and watch them roll away..Otis Redding passed away in a plane crash before the song was released (3 days after recording it) the whistling which is him in the song is there because he was still trying to write out the last verse, his plan was to come back to Memphis and do that.. it never happened, the whistling stayed as is...this became his number one hit, and is one of the most famous whistlings in any song..
Thank you Lips.. I'm on the same level with you when it comes to music, loving the classics and the story behind them, even when it is your own..

You know... i've been going through alot, in life, love, and what it means to be here, to exist and have friends.. had to take a break, well i did what was asked of me, to be isilated, away from others influence and advice is what it really was.. i did it.. For life.. right now i've become a worka~damn-holic, for love..i lost all self and senses to being a woman of value and worth..i found myself asking the question..what does it take to win his love, so weary, so tired.. realizing i took the wrong prong in the fork on the road, he took advantage of a kind and caring heart which was too blind to see, in my eyes he could never do wrong.. we are the last ones to know..i called him every name in the book, i turned mean and evil.. but i swear to you all he deserved it.. so many nasty things he did.. he didn't give a damn, sitting up on a high~horse thinking he does no wrong, secretly hoping he falls.. but thats horrible of me.. i just a soon let him go, i never beleived in "theres a thin line between love and hate".. i beleive in it now..
I was sitting here hurting, feeling guilty, feeling badly like im the one who was wrong.. i clicked on my favorites and there it was "Latest Casino Bonuses".. i see General Discussion.. and behold before me are my answers..
"sitting on the dock of the bay, watching the tide roll away.." immediately i visioned it, turned on the song..sighed the biggest sigh of relief, i am alive and like a massage.. allowed every bit of it to roll away with the tide..
I missed you all very very very much.. i was happy here, doing my thing.. just logging in.. i feel better and his thoughts are disinerating, i guess im letting it burn.. lol -
