funny fishing stories

As a kid growing up in mississippi one of our faviorte things to do was to go fishing.My family would sit around the lake and tell fishing stories One of the funniest ones was how my 280 pound father said he was fishing with friends and hooked a fish that pulled him almost into the lake lol.I sometimes still go fishing from 6am to dark.Does anyone else have any fishing stories

I used to love fishing when I was a kid but unfortunately I don't have time for that now even though I'd love a few quiet hours at the lake or river. However, I have to say that all fishermen are called liars back here

I remeber i  went fishing one day. I looked over the side of the boat and saw a snake with a frog in its mouth. feeling sorry for the frog, I reached down, gently took the frog from the snake, and set the frog free. But then I felt sorry for the snake. i looked around the boat, but had no food. All I had was a bottle of bourbon. So I opened the bottle and gave the snake a few shots. The snake went off happy, the frog was happy, and I was happy to have performed such good deeds. i thought everything was great until about ten minutes passed and i heard something knock against the side of the boat. With stunned disbelief,  I looked down and saw the snake was back with two frogs!

we used to go fishing off a peir in long beach, we went this one time and i wasn't catching nothing, i realized my bait wasn't staying on the hook, i got this crazy idea to use a peice of my chewing gum and a peice of popcorn..and laaaaawwwd did i catch some fish.. within about an hour i had about 60 perch, well others seeing me catchem' left and right asked what i was using for bait i told them, before long.. had the whole half of the peir chewing, and using gum and popcorn for bait! It was a good day for fishing..

When I was a kid my grandfather and I would go fishing at different creeks on friends farms.  Once I hooked a full grown St. Bernard.  Grandpa was afraid of dogs, so as you can imagine we had a good time reeling in the dog.  On Christmas eve he past away, with that being one of his last stories.

edit: funniest time though, my cousin and I went out on the local river (got high) and raced the boat around the bridge piers.  Laughing so hard we ate so many mayflies as they are attracted to light. (FYI mayflies are like moths to a degree but only survive a few days)

This is a story of a very fortuitous fishing "trip."

My older brother was an avid fisherman from a very early age. He was also a budding chemist. One day a chemistry experiment went awry and he managed to burn his arm badly from wrist to elbow.

As you can imagine he was not allowed to go fishing while he was healing from the burn. But, the day came when finally Mom declared that the burn was completely scabbed over and he could again go fishing. Accordingly we all piled into the family car and off to the river we went.

So the bro gets fishing in the river going ever further out on the rocks as he went. Then he went one slippery rock too far and he went flying in the air in all directions at once.

During this most impressive flight he managed to get the hook set firmly in his toe, cut his head on a sharp rock, and tear that scab completely off, wrist to elbow.

So, into the family car with rags on his bloody head, hook in his toe, towel around his injured arm and moaning loudly he went. Mom raced him to the hospital in town in a pure panic. At the hospital they took one look at him and rushed him into emergency.

They stitched his head, got the hook out of his toe and bandaged up and then turned to the arm. And here the good fortune you may have been waiting for comes in. That scab he had ripped off had been covering a horrible infection that would have likely cost him that arm at a young age. Now it was cleaned up, antibiotics were given, and the arm healed perfectly after that.

That was the best fishing "trip" the family ever had!
