    Hi Guys and Dolls,

    In a recent interview Google CEO Sergy Brin stated his concerns that the freedom of internet is under constant threat with governments, entertainment and proprietary businesses.

    Brin warned of "very powerful forces that have lined up against the open internet on all sides and around the world" claiming he is more "worried" than ever and the current situation is '"scary".

    He points out that the entertainment industry is continually trying to crack down on privacy issues and governments trying to set controls on Internet access.

    China is among the first countries to implement the "real identity" rules for Internet users in an attempt to identify anti-government bloggers. Iran is planning on a sealed " National Internet" this summer.

    Hollywood is putting pressure on the UK to pass legislation that require ISPs to block copy righted material from being downloaded.

    "I thought there was no way to put the genie back in the bottle, but now it seems in certain areas the genie has been put back in the bottle," said Brin.

    He claims that Facebook and Apple are too closed in their development, stating that if they were created first Google would of have never existed.

    Google has been forced by US authorities to hand over data that is on their servers.

    "We push back a lot. We are able to turn down a lot of these requests. We do everything possible to protect the data," said Brin.

    "If we could wave a magic wand and not be subject to US law, that would be great. If we could be in some magical jurisdiction that everyone in the world trusts, that would be great. We are doing it as well as can be done."

    How do you feel about the Internet being controlled and all your data being turned over to authorities? Google is the super power search engine and is this a matter of one power butting heads with other super powers and this is the real concern. Google for the most part basically controls the internet through search and has the highest freedom of all with full control over the internet.

    I think Google is also a certain threat to the "internet freedom" through how they do things, like manipulating your search answers and gathering too much personal data from users....i personally no longer use google for my searches, but i use duckduckgo, who provides a clean interface together with a no-tracking privacy policy.

    Don't get me started on this subject, i am totally against it, yet we cant do anything about it, which is against our civil liberty and human right issues too,

    and yes google is the worst for keeping our data LMAO and they said they are scared, they keep all our information already, they are contradicting themselves grrrrr lol

    end of vent hahaha (wont say anymore cos i would probly make this reply really really long if i did lol

                You vent as much as you want RJ,  this is an important subject that affects all of us.    By the way,  thanks for the Martini in 3 Dice.  Johan,  thanks for the info.  I tried that engine you mentioned,  very interesting.  Yeah, I don't trust Google.  Pisses me off about how  they feel they have to track us.  I just don't see any good coming from any of this.  Whatever happened to our privacy rights?

    It is definitely scary in so many ways.  Google tracks us, the Govts. want info from Google.  Anonymity on the internet is a thing of the past but I do like the sound of that search engine you mentioned Johan.

    Going off on a slight tangent here, I searched my email address some time ago on google and it came up in a chinese database which I tried to translate but without success.  That worried me.
