Google Makes Porn Harder to Find

I read an article about some recent changes to Google's controls. They've finally tightened up making it less likely to find pornographic images when doing random searches. It seems no matter what you type in, it brings up something sexual whether you're in "Safe Search" or not.

Now, as long as you have Google set to Safe Search, you should see "safer" images when surfing the net.

A Google representative told CNET: "We are not censoring any adult content, and want to show users exactly what they are looking for - but we aim not to show sexually explicit results unless a user is specifically searching for them.

"We use algorithms to select the most relevant results for a given query. If you're looking for adult content, you can find it without having to change the default setting - you just may need to be more explicit in your query if your search terms are potentially ambiguous. The image search settings now work the same way as in Web search."

Good news or will you miss seeing something obscene when you're not looking for it? 

I definitely won't miss seeing porn when I'm not searching for it....not that I ever search for it.

I've seen some really disgusting pics when searching for something totally innocent.  I was so upset by them, I reported them.

I guess that's a good step forward but there are so many totally irrelevant results still popping up...

I have never had any problems but that was maybe because I had never used google images much.

I use Google images all the time and it wasn't too bad but I did see some sights. Innocent searched bring up some raunchy pics. Glad they've done something about it for us and the kids.

Good idea to have more filters in place.  Now, I thought Facebook had some sort of method to keep out the pornish pictures (like removing the photo of the girl with the elbows in the tub).  But one of my 'friends' posted some pics that would give the kids a thorough education they won't get in school.  I've got to get them off of my news feed.  Too bad google can't make porn harder to find on the rest of the internet and not just on google.

So, actually google is not making it harder to find, just harder to stumble upon accidentally.

Phrase it anyway you like. I'm just glad it's not something that I have to see when I'm looking for recipes.

I just typed a few phrases in google, porn related, and a gazillion porn choices came up.

crap... now I have to clear my history or my youngster will be bug eyed if he uses my computer. lol
