Home...Home on the Range....

I just had to share these.  I own a little hobby farm-ranch...like to get out and ride my horses often and mess around with my small herd of cattle.  Last week I was out riding on our property, minding my own business when my cattle decided they wanted to get all close & personal with my mare & I.  I have 4 mama cows, 4 steers that will be ready to butcher in 2-3 months and then 4 calves from this past Spring....all came out to find out why I was treading in their turf.  I was out riding the fenceline which I do from time to time to make sure there are no areas in need of repair.  I took my lariat with me thinking I could practice some roping...but nobody wanted to play.

awesome.  No cowdogs?  I love the country life but so far have only wrangled up a lot of feral cats.

makes me miss home 

That's a superb thing you got going there Hymacaw, I'd love to become a farmer once I retire.

Plenty of years until then though...

Looks wonderful hymacaw.  I love horses and I've not ridden for years - you're very lucky (I use that loosely as I'm guessing you worked hard to get what you have).

Thanks chilly. Yep, have a cow dog...sorta.  A German Shepherd who is actually a bit afraid of the mama cows after one of them turned him on his back a few months ago.  He got between her and a newborn calf, he didn't know what hit him.  So...he pretty much stays out of the pastures now.  We do need a REAL cow dog tho...someday.

Oh, poor dog.  It's hard to get the best of a German Shepherd.  But getting between mama and calf is a pretty risky situation.  I hope he didn't hurt more than his pride.
