Just like my favorite show "What would you Do? They did an episode last week of a homeless person laying on the sidewalk in a big city and filmed as ppl just walked by. Of course they were all actors including the Homeless man and then they did a Homeless woman. More ppl stopped to ask the homeless woman if she was ok. No one stopped to help the homeless man, well another Real homeless lady did at the end. Well today I was driving around my little beach town running errands and i saw someone on the ground. Drove back and pulled over it was a homeless woman. I asked her if she was ok, her name is Claudia she has turrets also. She said that the motel stole her money kicked her out and she was waiting for the bus, she said they poisoned her? The bus came and she could not stand the driver refused to let her on cause she was swaying. A man in a car stopped and said he was calling 911 she said she did not want that then she threw up. So I said go ahead make the call. While he was doing that I walked up the street to cuss out the motel and find out the truth they did not come when i rang the bell like they were avoiding me. I went back to Claudis and the paremedics came and said she had just got out of jail i said for what, the Paramedics said for calling 911 too many times. I said OMG are you kidding me. The Paramedics about 7 of them said look lady "Take her home with you or leave." Then Claudia said yeah Lady, take me home with you? I said Claudia I think you need to get checked honey if you were ok I might take you home with me, but right now you nd med attn. It broke my heart when she said that, I feel like a terrible person. All I really know is someone stopped LOVING HER sometime somewhere, she wasn't born homeless no one ever is. So my question is.........How many of you would stop, if you saw a homeless person on the sidewalk just to see if they were alive? -

If I were walking by, I might stop-it would depend on a lot of things. If I were driving by, I would probably just call 911. If I were walking and didn't stop, I would probably call 911. I've got some post-traumatic stress stuff and handling a situation of that sort would really be uncomfortable.
I've been on the street, bruised up, crying, hiding out from the person who caused my injuries, obviously in distress and nobody stopped-I was even in a college parking lot with security and plenty of people saw me. It sucks. -

lucky8, god bless you for what you tried to do. most of us would probably look the other way, because we have heard about so many people that pretend to be homeless to try and get money from someone. It's sad, one day I was driving to the air port and a man was standing in the street with a sign asking for money so I stopped and gave him some, my son was with me and had a fit telling me the man probably live in a mansion and just takes money from people for a living. well, i don't feel that way. One thing I have learned from my church is that sometimes we are not the right people to help someone. DO NOT Take a stranger home, but get them to a shelter, unfortunately things don't always turn out like the Blindside, that's a movie, this is real life. Don't put yourself and your family in danger. Stop help but move on.

You know, in this town to be honest there are alot of homeless people, it is their choice, there is help.. alot refuse it, they'd rather live on the streets, most of them panhandle and yes most for drugs or alcohol, theres alot of gather spots everywhere in this city, the spots you will see the same ones almost every day. There are soup kitchens and beds for them and other types of help, i have listened to their stories, most was the same story, came to vegas to win a million lost everything they had and began at that point the life of the streets, theres other stories about additions that caused it, and some you can just feel it was as you said, no one to love them enough, very sad.. some way some how ran out of money, no job and no where to go, found it easier to panhandle then finding a place that would employ them. They find they don't have to pay rent or bills any longer, living the streets was less stress then facing reality on living life.
I have never walked by a homeless person without giving them whatever i have in my pockets, or without handing them some of my food from my groceries, always something. I have had friends and family members get mad at me for this, "they are just going to go buy booze or drugs".. i'd always answer.. maybe not.
My step-father went for a walk about 5 blocks from where i live is a walgreens, one major intersection to cross, well he got back and when he did he was all bloody, his knees and his hands, he is a very strong man one that never complains of pain or sickness, as he walked in the door i said.. what happened to you... getting wet towels for him.. he told me he was about to cross the street when a car made a speedy right turn in front of him causing him to quickly step back he lost his footing and fell into the street, it numbed his knee kind of and he couldn't get up or move from the spot, he said he was half in the street and half on the sidewalk, i was saying, dad my god.. im so glad you are okay, i was so nervous and upset, i was helping him clean up all the blood and checking to see if everything was okay and i looked at him in his face and his eyes, and when i did he said "and not one person stopped to help me" his eyes got kind of watery not about himself but as to say how have people of been this way and why, where is the heart of people.. my heart sunk to my toes thinking about that, i was choked.. no one stopped.. my father being 86 yrs old -

Thanks for the responses good to know there are ppl who would help. This is what I think. Regardless of your religion, we all believe in a God. Be somebody God can use. Meaning if you see it with your eyes and have eyes to see, or if you hear it, and you have ears to hear DO SOMETHING!!!! Anything. There were hundreds of people who drove by, it is a major street right by the Beach lots of tourists, and million dollar homes, Pacific Ocean, California, and God could not use any of the hundreds of people that saw and heard. I am no better i did not stop right away either, was going to my po box and to get my mail, not real sure what i saw. Then coming back still laying there but she was blocking the sidewalk motionless businesses right by her, people stepped over her. I have to say she was Beautiful yes cussing up a turrets storm, she had long blonde hair, not dirty, but her eyes were crystal blue. She was weathered by the sun extremely tan but her skin was cracked and sore. But she was beautiful, paramedics said she was 61. It made me angry to think this poor woman was arrested for calling 911 too many times. Please God give this woman some peace. -

Well Lucky, we just had a similar incident in Protland. A guy broke into a area for hotel guests, got into a hot tub and soaked for awhile, then called 911 and wanted hot chocolate and a hug.
Arrested for trespassing and wrongful se of the 911 system. What if his calling them or anyone calling them too much, leads to someone dieing because they were put on hold (Yes, that does happen)
This is the problem we have with the mentally ill, we can no longer "Force" them into hospitals and keep them warehoused, but when let to exist on their own, they bother others who have no choice in dealing with them (Other then walking by them)
There's just no answer as to how we should deal with this...I might fin9ish and say I'd "Possibly" see if they were alive...I don't know as I have never had this occur, though I have run into many mnetally ill people on the street...Not always a pleasant experience. -

How sad.
I don't know if I would stop. It's a very tricky question. I hear on the news or read in the paper that people have stopped to help a homeless person laying on the ground and they end up being severely injured and robbed by being ambushed. If it was a busy street I more than likely would stop to help but if it was night time (I wouldn't be there in the first instance) but I would be extremely careful.

Hiya Lucky,
I am trying to grasp why there would be any relevance to it being a homeless person or not. I would help anyone who needed help, homeless or not. The only difference for me is that a homeless person may pull at my heart strings more.
For the life of me i will never understand how any person would not come to the aid of anyone that needed help. And when someone does offer a helping hand they are considered a hero! A hero???? It is called being humane and having compassion.
I have been up against more than one situation in my life that i have stepped in while bystanders stood there and did nothing. I can't fathom it. It's beyond my comprehension to understand how anyone could stand and watch.
I am not even talking about where it could put someone in danger either. So that is not even an excuse. I wrote about previously a elderly man who had Alzheimer's and it was obvious he was disoriented. He was lost and kept stopping people for directions. Not a single person would offer assistance! NOT ONE!!! He was ignored, laughed at and they kept walking.
I called 911 and stayed with him to calm him down til 911 came. Turns out he left the senior home and his family was worried sick. Was i a hero? Hell no i wasn't a hero, i did what any human being should do and don't!

"and not one person stopped to help me" his eyes got kind of watery not about himself but as to say how have people of been this way and why, where is the heart of people.. my heart sunk to my toes thinking about that, i was choked.. no one stopped.. my father being 86 yrs old
Did all these people drive by as if nothing while, my father lay in the street because of a crazy in a hurry driver.. did they think he was just some drunk old man, or a homeless person with a mental illness, that he was going to be a nuisance.. my father was dressed nicely he was no where near homeless looking, he was hurt lying in the street.. not even a 911 call was made..on top of it he is 86yrs old.. my fathers face and eyes as he said "no one stopped to help" speaks for all those that cannot, where is the hearts of people?
I'd stop and help period. -
