  • i smoke tobacco so the price here is around 50 cents for the 20 cigarettes. not bad at all

  • i dont smoke often but when i do a pack of cigarettes goes for about 5 bucks around here.

  • 5$ sometimes

  • Those prices don't sound all that bad!
Here in the Netherlands prices keep going up and up and up.

I smoke Chesterfield cigarettes and at the moment for a pack that contains 37 cigarettes I'm paying the crazy price of €9.90.
For the smallest pack Chesterfield (which contains about 17 cigarettes) one pays about €5.80.

I used to say I'd quit when the price for one pack would be about Hfl.10,- (Hfl = Dutch guilders) but that ship has sailed since the current prices are already much higher than that (€9.90 = Hfl. 21.82 and €5.80 = Hfl. 12.78) and I'm still smoking....

Ah well, who knows, maybe I'll find a good enough reason to stop (like a pregnancy or something like that), maybe I'll never stop or maybe smoking will even be forbidden by law.

That last option seems to come closer and closer every day. I heard that in the USA people who for example live in appartments are trying to prohibit their neighbours from smoking in their own homes!!! By claiming that when their neighbours smoke in their homes, they are being affected by the smoke.

For me that's where I draw the line. I can understand the ban on smoking in public spaces but don't you ever try to tell me what I can or can't do in my personal living space(s).

  • I was a chain-smoker, with 1,5-2 packs/day. I prefered black Dunhill (EUR 4), gold Benson & Hedges (EUR 5) but my fav one was the red Marlboro (EUR 4). And sometimes I bought only tobacco (Golden Virginia for EUR 10).

  • $5.50 a pack is what i still pay here in Kansas for Marlboro. I have tried the e-cig and I didn't care for it, but that is just my personal opinion. I agree with most posters I really do need to quit.

NiQuitin Minitab helped me to quit. I bought 5 packs for EUR 25 and after 3 weeks I was smoke free.
  • Congrats on quitting! This past August was a year that i quit smoking. I quit cold turkey. I was so sick that i ended up in ER. The doc told me i had pneumonia and that i should really think about quitting smoking. I left the hospital and never took another puff again.

    thumbs_up Congratulations to you too!
Did you find it hard to quit? Did your doc's "warning" help you to quit?

I think that if you want to quit without starting again, you need to be ready for quitting and 100% behind it yourself. If you try to quit because it's more socially accepted or others want you to, you are much more likely to fail and start smoking again.

I belive someday I'll be able to quit and keep it that way.
  • Well done lipstick_xoxos, and i hope your ok now. I still use e-cigs, but i havent smoked for 2 years 8 months now. time has gone by soo fast.

I think you are absolutely right, you can't do it for someone else or society! With my situation I was ready to quit and the doc telling me to quit was the push I needed. I hope one day it will click for you too

ok good smiley I don't know how people can go cold turkey, your much stronger than me though. people that go gold turkey have stronger will power in my opinion. i just switched to a more healthy alternative, and yes it is like i never even smoked now. well e-cigs isnt smoking, it shouldnt really be classed as smoking.

But glad your doing ok now, and good luck to with your non smoking, try not to crave one, and if u do, just try and use an e-cig. smiley
  • i smoke Sampoerna Dji Sam Soe,  cigarettes without filter (local Product) which contains about 12 cigarettes per pack. cost about US $ 1.00 per pack

Hi Hendra - Do all cigarettes where you live come 12 in a pack? $1.00 is really a deal!
  • 2.80eur  19cigarettes pack...

  • For me is €3,90 for a 20 pack.

  • For me is €3,90 for a 20 pack.

How its possible? So cheap!  €3,90 for a 20 pack. I can"t believe!
  • Here in Minnesota (USA) Premium (Marlboro, Newportetc.) cigarettes are about $9.00 for a pack of 20. I smoke full flavor but only smoke 3 or 4 cigarettes a day, so they last for a while. I figure that makes more snse than to smoke a pack a day of ultra lights; they are the same price.

CONGRATULATIONS to all of you who are smoke free!!  cheesy thumbs_up I know how very difficult it is to quit!

    <htg>  O///O
  • 3 euros for Camel! Marlboro is 3,30. The little winstons and chesterfields which come in 10 cigs per pack are 1,65 now, so the price for the rest of them will go up too cheesy

  • im not  smoking but my dad does and he spent 50-60 euros on that . A lot of my friend smoking and they are not spending a lot of money on that . I think that is just waste of money and nobady need it .

  • In a month i usualy spend about 25-30 euros on cigarettes, so tha't s actually nothing much, if you look at some heavy hitters cheesy I know a guy who smokes 2 packs a day and it costs him over 100 in a month.. cheesy

  • For me is €3,90 for a 20 pack.

    3.90 euro per pack with 20 cigarettes,correct?
I no smoke, quit years ago  but my partner smoke but he go buy from Ukraine where are cheap
even so i not agree spend money on smoking
  • I remember then i bought them 6-7 years ago ( now i'm not smoking) , cigaretes costs about 1 euro.. now 3 euro cheesy

  • In Norway the cost is 11 euro for 20 pk  shocked

  • 1-1.5 euro for a pack

  • here in new york newports cost $8.00 a pack

  • wow... it is really amazing to realize how in the USA the prices differ...

Here in Germany we pay about 6 € per pack - I personally do a quick night-trip to poland at least once a month and pay for 800 cigs gauloises red 135 €. They have 24/7/365 cig-stores at the border and a whole city lives very well on selling gas and cigs to the germans.

eu authorities are continously forcing poland to raise tax on cigs and gas - since they are evil and spoil sports who want to nanny all of us.

thats why I sometimes consider that I should start drinking more alcohol. just to annoy them.

:O Your government really doesn't want you to smoke. So expensive. I mean, I know your living standard is very high, but still.. it's pricey.

Congratulations on your decision I´m an ex-smoker, and I know how difficult it is, good luck and be persistent, the effort is rewarded in the end thumbs_up
  • Thank you all for the encouragement, it's quite tough at the moment but so far so good... fourth day without cigarettes after roughly 20 years of daily smoking.

Congratulations Johnny! This is a tough decision... Do You use nicotine patch or pill? I think the first 3 days are the hardest so You're in a good position to be smoke-free.
  • I use nicotine gum but I try not to have too many of those, just 2 or 3 per day. I plan to stop using the gum after two weeks.

Gum was good-for-nothing for me. Niquitin MiniTab helped me to become smoke-free in 4 weeks.
But I hope Your plan will be successful.

I think nicotine withdrawal symptoms are quite overrated, the main addiction to smoking is a psychological one, not a chemical one. I have to defeat the habits that have been a part of my life for so many years, nicotine is just the easy part smiley
  • Best of luck Johnny.  You're doing great - keep it up.

  • Good luck Johnny! I think about kicking smoking too but I'm afraid I'm not ready for it yet.  grin

Nicotine withdrawal symptoms last for at most two weeks, at least that's what doctors say. You should definitely see a doctor about this gum problem, really.

I read an essay about the psychologoical addictiveness of nicotine a couple of years ago. It said that the addiction strenght is compareable to the psychological addiction of heroin.

To manage to quit is an extreme effort imo. My big respect to anyone who manages to get rid of that evil addiction...
  • I smoked very much i bought 5 euro a pack every 2 days some months ago but now i stopped smoking, its really very hard to stop smoking but 3 months i already didnt smoke, if you REALLY want to stop its not that hard, just remember that it is something you dont need and its ONLY bad, and you can stop with it! Good luck all

  • Three months! That is great chohlet. Congratulations. Keep it up!

  • Well done chohlet!
