I am Deaf When it Comes to Names...........

Hiya LCB'ers,I have a defect i must admit and it's a serious one. I have the worst time retaining someones name when i am introduced to them. I don't think there has ever been one time that i have remembered it. Put better, i don't think i have ever even heard the persons name!I am not sure what i am thinking about or what is going through my mind but it can be very embarrassing. Never quite sure how to handle situations like this. Do i ask them again or avoid at all costs to address them by name?There is a neighbor who lives across the street. She has introduced herself more then once. She has my name down pat and addresses me by my name. When i went out to the car the other day she was across the street walking the other way when she dropped something out of her purse. In a panic i am not sure how to address this situation. I can't say "hey" i can't say "ma'am" or "excuse me miss". So i said "oh hold on you dropped something"! Do you have this deaf in one ear syndrome like i do when it comes to a person's name?Lips

Omg, me too!! It's nice to know I'm not the only one lol. The neighbor thingy, I am in the same boat. Out of all my neighbors around me (across the street, beside me, behind me) I only know one neighbor's name. Funny thing is, they are the ones who have lived by me the least amount of time. But, I have to admit I am great with faces. Not that that helps when I need to address them by name.....
Wonders if there is a pill for this syndrome

lmaooooooooo if there is a pill i want it asap!!!! It is really embarrassing and at the same time it is so nice when someone else remembers your name. If only i could return the favor.

Like you, i'm good with faces and have a good memory with stories and conversations. If i could only remember who it is i'm talking to.

Maybe we need a neon sign on our forehead flashing our name I'm the same way...don't ya just hate it and I can't even blame it on having a senior moment because I've always been this way.

It's not even a matter of forgetting their names i don't even hear it when i'm introduced! I think a million thoughts flood my mind on introductions. I have to admit i tend to concentrate more on what the person is about more then anything.

Reminds me of the 7/11. In the first 7 seconds we make 11 impressions on the person we meet. That's a lot going on!

guess I have been blessed since I usually do remember all the names except some, really difficult to pronounce and spell, sometimes even the names of their children that have been introduced to me.
I don't know why I have always felt that it's important to remember them...maybe it's hard to communicate with someone without name to go with?;D

Lips, you said you don't even hear their name when introduced. I'm not sure we aren't twins cos I'm the same, never hear a name. I love lipstick too..lol I'm never without it. Even at home, I have it on. Hubby says lipstick companies would go out of business if not for me..lol
