  • I am going to try not to swear..but right now, I am so pissed it is not even funny, so bear with me.

I just got a lead on a job while I was chatting with Lips, so I hung up, and filled out the application.  It was for a new position just in.

I filled out the whole application, which I thought was a little too personal to begin with, but this is for a major Corporation, so I figured they must know what they can get away with...seemed a little iffy to me, but I filled it in.

Anyway, the very end, its asking me if I , or anyone in my family has ever been on Welfare, TANF, Foodstamps, AFDC,  in the last 18 months.
    Or after 1997...blah, blah, blah.....

Well, I am not on them now, which if you read my post before, you know my feelings on this..I AM entitled to them.  I have 3-4 weeks of unemployment left, and could probably use them, but since I waste my money on gambling..don't feel that it is right, and don't take them.

But in 2004, when I had cancer, I had to breakdown, and go on them.  So I answered their question. Yes, I was on foodstamps.  It was a checkmark on a box.  It was supposedly to fill out a form for some kind of e-credit.  Should this cost me a job?????

THEN..at the very, after I finish anwering the welfare questions, it takes me back to the job page and says I am NOT qualified for the job.

THIS is all they are basing this on as far as I can see, I had not even submitted my resume, and I was HIGHLY qualified for this job.

IS THIS LEGAL??  It definately is not right.  >:(
    What do you think??

  • Nal.. first off.. 2004 is NOT within 18 months.. you could of said no.. silly!

Another thing F*************** THEM you are TOO GOOD for them!
THAT JUST GOT ME PISSED OFF TOOOOOOOOO

Trust me TRUST ME.. the right job will come along for you
Perfect in all aspects, one you will love, be respected and change your life
this job just was not for you

  • OMG!!!!!!!  That has to be discrimination hun somehow!!  I agree with VIV though F@@@ them you are WAY too good for them hun!!
  • I would be p****d off too.  I don't see the relevance of it.  It sounds like discrimination to me.  Are you able to fill it in again with a "no" in the appropriate box and see what happens?

    blue

  • yea f*** them, that is not right >:(

It had a bunch of questions..18 months, 6 months, then since 1997..well, I went on then for a couple of months in 2004.

This was a form, looked like a government form, asking about if you were a veteran, etc,

It got signed, dated, it was called an e-credit.  It was within the application process.  But as soon as I say I was on government help, I get disqualified for a JOB???  What the hell is this???

This is from the PEPSI-COLA Corporation...I should have known..I don't even like PEPSI.  I am a COKE drinker!!

you just made me cry...you sounded like my mother.  She always had the feeling if it wasn't meant to be..it wasn't meant to be.  You said it perfect...I have always followed her philosophy on that.  That goes for anything..not just jobs.

  • Nal,

I would write them SUCKERS back or call them and DEMAND why you are are not qualified. I think these places have gotten really really picky with the economy....they are down right walking the edge to being illegal.

I am really sorry your upset hun....your better than them anyway. Keep the faith...and remember we are your family....and will always be here for you.

  • Nal as I sit here with my hubby and our neighbors I just read your original post aloud.  Let me tell ya sweetheart that just got this whole room FURIOUS!!!!!!! I can not believe that.  If I were you I would be posting on every site and forum (not just gambling ones) that I could find and start a WAR!!!!!!!!!!!! That is absolutely NOT acceptable.  You are so much better than them OBVIOUSLY.  Oh by the way........I've always been a loyal Coke drinker too hehehehe. YOU ROCK BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • I would demand answers, but to be truthful:

Discrimination cannot be done for the following reasons:

Age, sex, religion, race, national origin.

However, this leaves the door WIDE open to discrimination for "Other" reasons.

    I'd call them up..

Oh, in conclusion? I WORKED at the Coke Distributor in Tualitin in 1996 for a few months. Union shop but night manager was fun.

He about died laughing when I was leaving and he gave me 4 cases of coke. I said "Oh thanks, I guess I can find someone who likes this stuff!" I was a heavy pepsi drinker, but now down to more water (Heavy coffee) and that's all...:D

  • Sweetie, when the time is right you will get a GREAT JOB!! Always have faith--that job was not for you! But really pissed me off too that you were treated like that.

    Thanks Boo!
And you know, I really felt like I was lowering myself in the first place applying for this job..I have never worked in anything but Government/Military type Corporations, but it is slim pickins right now, and my time is running out.  So I decide to try something commercial...and PEPSI...how low can I go, I am thinking to myself..Boo, you just don't know, swear to GOD, I would not even allow people to put it in my refridgerator...I have always been such a DIE HARD COKE LOVER...years ago when they changed the formula, me and my friends formed a boycott to bring back the old coke..
Anyway..I always said..PEPSI SUCKS,  Reeeealllly Freaken mean it now!!!!!!!
I am going to Unemployment tomorrow, and telling them about this, and seeing their take on it.

Thanks moon..and Welcome to our Forum!!  I know that wasn't the right job..It just got me so MAD!!!
Not just for me, But for ANYONE who applies!!!!  This is just not acceptable.

I don't think so blue...it was like a government form within the application process.  As soon as I filled it out, it said I wasn't qualified for any jobs, when indeed I am so overly qualified, but they wouldn't even know that because they wouldn't even let me submit my resume.

I would not want to work there anyway now after that blue...I just had to vent..I have never seen such blatant discrimination.

I wanted to see what you guys thought too before I went to go complain about it tomorrow.
    thanks
  • I hope you do complain.  I think its disgraceful that they can dismiss people like that for that reason.

Let us know how you get on.

  • hey nal.......just about every application i have filled out {about 200 in the last 5 months} has asked me the same question about recieveing any government benefits. I really doubt that they wouldn't hire you because you put down yes.....as a matter of fact, you saying yes actually helps them.....the last time i filled out an app. and was asked those questions, i asked during my interview why i was being ask...{bty, i did get the job} and turns out they will recieve an extra tax cut for hiring someone who has claimed those benefits!! Regardless of the reason, i'm really sorry to hear your having a hard time trying to find work right now, but hang in there...it'll happen in time....oh and some unwanted advice i'm sure, don't spend what you do have on casino's trying to make it big.....it might work, but it usually never does and then your left hurting for money even more....i only say that because i did it myself....was down and out trying to find work and i only recieved $80.00 every 2 weeks...i would sit there and put my $80.00 on the casino's everytime i got it and try to win a little and cashout, but just ended up losing and being flat busted broke............... :'(

  • All I can say is ALL MY GOD, you have got to be kidding me...unreal, the nerve people, whomever have to ask such a thing and not give you a job because at one point you needed help....I see it this way, I have worked all my life and if for some reason I don't work and need help by god you bess believe I'm getting it....I can't say no more because I am so pissed, I am so sorry this happened to you, ignorant people!!!! mrgmomma67....

ya, they may have gotten their tax credit, because that is what the form looked like.
but, as soon as i signed it, it said i was not qualified for any positions, and they didn't even let me submit my resume, which would have shown them i was extremely qualified.
it doesn't matter.  i don't want to work at that sucky place.  i am just appalled at the whole thing.

i have worked at military/governent/nasa jobs for the last 27 years, and all my applications that i have filled out in the last 7 months, for these people..not one of them asked me these questions.

thanks..i am trying to hang in there.  and i do spend my money still on the casino, but i make a decent check from unemployment.  i collect almost 600. every week, and i can't even find a job that pays that well right now.
my job if i can find one..the pay is cut almost in half.  i am looking for any crap now, i only have 3 weeks of unemployment left then i will be up a creek.  still keeping my fingers crossed tho!
