DETROIT - Viagra and pornography are not staples on the government's food stamp list. But authorities say a Detroit liquor store supplied them during a series of illegal deals.
Federal prosecutors filed fraud charges this week against three people who worked at Jefferson's Liquor Palace.
The alleged scheme worked this way: Food stamp recipients would get cash from the store in exchange for swiping larger amounts off their electronic cards. The store would then be reimbursed by the U.S. Agriculture Department.
And in some transactions, the government says the store provided informants Viagra, liquor and porn in exchange for swiping about $2,000 off food stamp cards.
The government says fraud at the store topped $130,000 over 2 1/2 years. The store is closed.

As someone who DISLIKES greatly too much government, I feel it should hand out free Viagra
After all, the government gives out free food, cell phones, subsidized rent, mortage assistance, free medical care, $billions to all sorts of companies, etc. What is wrong with tossing around a few free Viagra pills???? -

Reminds me when I was in MO, was behind a lady in the market and her EBT card was rejected. Then she found out she only had like $10 on it and her food bill was $125+
Live in BF then opened his wallet and paid it.
I get so aggravated at this kind of doings, but Foodstamp doesn't care...sheesh!! -

I don't get it Gene...what doings gets you so aggrevated?
The foodstamp people? or her? Does this happen a lot?
In my area, foodstamps get issued twice a month, and people depend on this. Do you think
perhaps it may have been because of the holiday or something? Sometimes things like this happen, and the deposits don't go in automatically. Maybe she just didn't know. I don't know. Generally I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but maybe it happens a lot where you are from...does it? because if it is..that definately isn't cool.

Nal, you missed the point "Live in Boyfriend" footed the bill. In other words HE should pay for it and not the state. He's getting food he should be paying for (and the rest of that family) instead of taking money not rightfully theirs. -

OK, no probs..Lord if there was a number I could call, but then again, they'd not touch it.
I mean I can REALLY feel for a female with 3 kids (Hopefully all the one father) and they've fallen on hard times Heck I'd be there to help.
But it's abuse like this that would make me grind my teeth if I had any

I think foodstamps are a state funded item not a federal, anyone in WA state can apply(if they are under a certain income& by the amount of people in their home meet the criteria)our cost of living is high here.5 yrs ago when I was a single mom with 2 lil blonde girls i had a job as a pet groomer(maybe a gross job sometimes but dogs carry 8X less germs than humans) made about $27/hr I still received 336 in foodstamps every month. I am on disability for the rest of my life due to a mentally traumatic horror(when precious lives were lost) caused by the states judicial system and I am here with my Bear(husband&support) and i still receive 289 in food.Is that wrong? As for the girl with the live in BF he probably isn't on her family service case so she does not receive FS's.Reason being only to dodge the fact of losing her state funded housing assistance because a non-relative lives w/her and has an income

No Booie, the food stamp program is funded by the USDA (Fed Program) so there's that.
In regards to the posting about the female, I did say she used her card and found she didn't have as much as she thought she did. So she is receiving foodstamps.
I also said her "Live in BF" opened his wallet and paid for it..I didn't mention his wallet was quite fat, so he obviously worked at a fairly good paying job I'd suspect.
There lies the problem. She good enough to live with, but not good enough to marry? "Why buy the cow (No insult intended) when the milk is so cheap?"
In this manner, he gets cheap housing, free food and sex when he likes (Or she does) and pays very little out of HIS pocket, while the rest of the taxpayers foot the bill for everything else.
This is abuse in my opinion. -

BOOIE.....For people like yourself who have a verifiable disability, then Food Stamps should be part of our society's safty net. But, I can tell you from years of volunteer work with the poor: People do get hooked on welfare, foodstamps, free this-and-that.
Has anyone seen the Youtube videos of people who REALLY believe Obama SHOULD (as in MUST) give them a free house, car, education, healthcare, cell phone, and spending money??? This is not good for society at all.
