  • We can thank Shakespeare for coining many phrases we still use today and literally 100's of words he invented!

Here are just some of the phrases:

All that glitters is not gold

    Bated breath

    Catch a cold

    Dead as a doornail

Eaten me out of house and home

    Elbow room

    For goodness' sake

    Heart of gold

    In a pickle

    In my heart of hearts

    Kill with kindness

    Love is blind

    Not slept one wink

    Seen better days

    Sick at heart

Too much of a good thing

    Wild-goose chase

I think i have used all of these at one time or another how about you?

  • Very interesting. Catch a cold was one? What would we do without Shakespeare? I have used most of them at some point.

  • I've used most of them too. "The be all and end all" is one I've used many times too but I had no idea these were Shakespeare.

  • I didn't either blue. This is only a small part of the phrases he coined. He also has a ton of words he introduced. I'll have to look them up too and post them.

  • Here are some Shakespeare word he invented:

    Cold-blooded
    Puke
    Obscene
    Belongings
    Assassination
    Uncomfortable
    Swagger
    Manager
    Laughable
    Bloodstained
    Eyeball
    Outbreak
    Rant
    Jaded
    Zany
    Fashionable
    Torture
    Lonely
    Mimic
    Unreal
    Dawn
    Negotiate

  • Puke!!!! I always wondered where it came from!

  • This is really interesting... Had no clue that he was such an inventor....

  • Ok here is another interesting fact that may have you putting your tooth brush in a new spot in your bathroom.

When a toilet flushes the water can spray out of the bowl up to 6 feet spreading water droplets full of bacteria where ever it lands.

So if you have your tooth brush out in the open chances are these nasty little droplets are landing on it and you are brushing your teeth with it.

To avoid it either shut the lid on your toilet before flushing or put it inside your medicine cabinet!

  • Oh heavens - it brings new meaning to bad breath. laugh_out_loud

  • Eek, that's so gross,  be_sickamp; thank god I keep mine in the cabinet!  laugh_out_loud

  • oh my  dizzy

  • Hell I keep my in a toothbrush holder on a shelf above the toilet. You got to be joking man. I think I am going be sick. Behind the mirror its moving tonight.

  • I will just drop this here:

Research by the University of Arizona last year found the average office desktop harboured 400 times more bacteria than the average office toilet seat.
They also found that, compared to men, on average women have three to four times the amount of germs in, on and around their work area.
  • Yep, I knew about that one. It's never been out because of that very fact. Made me sick when I first about the toilet spray.

  • Well, I guess it's blacklight time, right? At least that's how they check for germs on the TV...

  • I think I will start wearing gloves. cheesy

  • A law in 1770 by the British Parliament condemned woman for wearing lipstick. Women who wore it  could be found guilty of seducing men into matrimony by cosmetic means and would be tried for witchcraft.

Thank God that ruling doesn't apply now or i would be burned at the stake!

  • Well, I knew it, women wearing lipstick... must be witches!

I was thinking of opening a new topic, but I think this goes well into this category.
I like to drink Coke from time to time (not a regular Coke drinker, mind you), and I know that it is far from healthy. I know it has shitload of sugar in it (as well as so many other things we consume daily), but I find this video really interesting. Note how the Coke guy keeps it cool, and doesn't stray off his mantra: We are not trying to hide there is some sugar in it, we are providing information for everyone to see, and decide for themselves. Yep, children and teenagers are known to be reasonable and know what is good for them smiley
Coincidentally, I have a buddy who use to work for Coca Cola for a while, and he told me about the whole campaign that the truth behind countries who complain the most about children obesity (and linking it to Coca Cola and other soft drinks) are actually kind of guilty on their own, as they are usually Mediterranean countries, with specific hi-carb diets smiley

    Enough talking, here's the vid:

  • I used to drink it, especially during the high-school years, but in the last, at least 10 years I didn't have a single cup of that thing.

It's a matter of choice and if someone doesn't mind taking in that amount of sugar, it's their own responsibility for their health.

  • I avoid the stuff like the black plague. I mean sure i love sweets but if i am going to splurge it won't be on pop!

  • Um I love pop. Diet pop but pop!

  • Here's an interesting fact, the orange juice in the local McDonald's has got more calories that the Coke of the same volume. Now they have clearly put some effort to make that possible! I just couldn't believe my eyes....
