Internet habits

By now, it is really hard to think of someone who doesn't use Internet (at least if they are not like very old). I was wondering how often do you use it? What about your email?
As for me, I am constantly online on my desktop computer, and my smartphone, so I get my emails instantly, wherever I am. Also, one of the most important things when I travel is to find out about data plan I can use.
Do you think it is a kind of addiction?

It surely is an addiction... I am online almost 24/7, offline just when I sleep or travel.

I think it's an addiction.  I lost my internet for a few hours not so long ago and I felt utterly lost. 

I also think it's an addiction. I'm online all the time except, as Johnny said, when I travel or sleep. And when there are "technical difficulties" I get angry and irritated.

I find it quite disturbing that there seem to be so little activities (work or pleasure) that actually don't include Internet...

I agree with you Lootva. Just wondering how people survived before it came along in sad. There's nothing worse than seeing a group of people out and they are all on their phones. What? The people you're with aren't enough?

I can't live without my iPhone, I was never one for the Internet. I still am on an actual laptop rarely. If it wasn't for my phone, my addiction would have never started!

I am not so sure that it is so much an addiction but has become a major necessity on a world-wide level. Anything and everything you need and want can be found online and it doesn't get much better than doing it from the comfort of your home.

The internet has replaces sooooooooo many things that we otherwise have to do manually. From checking a recipe to making travel arrangements and everything in between.

I personally think it is the greatest invention since sliced bread!

I totally agree with you lipstick, just that I am a bit afraid that we are forgetting how things work without the almighty Internet. Just sad to see many crafts becoming obsolete, and a lot of kids not knowing much more than playing with their gadgets.

Your right Lootva many things have gone obsolete with the convenience of the internet. Hand written letters is definitely a thing of the past and those can be treasures to hold on to a life time. I think the camera industry has taken a big hit too with mobile devices. It has put a lot of companies out of business but at the same time the internet has opened many new doors.

If i had to name one thing that isn't good about the internet it would be that it is making us a lazy society. Things we had to go out for we no longer do anymore from gambling online to doing all our shopping online.

And mobile phones has to a degree cut off our socialization. I have been in social situations where the people in the room are tuned into their iPhones. One day while i was waiting in my car outside of a Subway while my friend went in to pick up a sandwich for us, the place was packed at lunch hour. And i kid you not every single person eating inside was playing with their phones. No one spoke or acknowledged anyone coming in or going out. it's that way everywhere from airports to waiting at a doctors office.

That's why sometimes when i get together with friends i will say hey no mobile devices! I have to admit i am just as guilty at times!

Agreed what happen to the gold old fashion love letters, instead I get romantic love notes via text  . I think it has created an awkwardness amongst people in society. Any chance we are out in society waiting in lines or for an appointment instead of interacting with others we are completely lost in a phone.

I agree with the laziness lips, I mean the phones have made everything right at our fingertips. We are even to the point where we no longer have to type what we need in the phone, you can just talk to Siri and its done for us.

I'm guilty of doing all thing too, but I will never shop on line! Part of the fun is trying clothes  on and going to lunch after a long day of shopping!

The biggest problem, in my opinion, is the lack of real communication. I think it's sad when I see people sitting together but spend time with their phones.

On the other hand, I don't think that Internet and all that technology cause laziness. It might seems so because it saves a lot of time; you can pay bills online, do shopping, gamble... whatever you need to do. I think it's the pressure that exists in today's societies that we have to do something all the time. It's almost a sin to just sit around and unplug - it's forbidden. Why? Because you must be a lazy person. People are "simply" torn between a need to do nothing, which doesn't make them lazy, and that pressure to always be busy and unavailable.

I like how technologies have made our life easier, there's nothing wrong with that. People should feel free to do whatever they want to do; their free time is their business.
