Iran agrees not to stone a woman convicted of Adultery

Has anyone heard about this? A women, a mother, has been convicted of adultery in Iran back in 2006/2007. She has already recieved 99 Lashes. They reevaluated her case, and decided she should die by stoning.

With such a public outcry to stop this torture, they have now said they will not execute her by stoning. However, they have failed to say if the woman will be spared, or hanged.

It is amazing to me that there are still countries who use this as a form of punishment. As a mother, I am outraged, and I know that many others are as well. I am also very saddened by this situation, and I hope she is spared her life.

A woman who was convicted of adultery and was sentenced to death by stoning in Iran won’t have to go through the gruesome sentence. Iran has issued a statement saying that the woman will not be stoned to death, following an outcry across the globe panning the sentence. People were outraged that such a form of punishment could even be thought of in today’s times.

The statement was issued by The Islamic Republic’s London Embassy. However they did not mention whether the woman would be completely spared or executed through hanging. Human rights group, Amnesty international, said that the woman had been convicted way back in 2006/2007 and had already got a flogging amounting to 99 lashes. The United States and Britain, have both strongly opposed the planned stoning execution of the woman. British Foreign Secretary Mr. William Hague termed the punishment as medieval, adding that such an act would utterly disgust and appall people the world over. He said that such a punishment would mean absolute disregard for humanity or human rights. Washington’s State department spokesman, Mark Toner felt that stoning itself is equal to torture and is barbaric. It is an act which is repulsive in nature.

An open letter was signed by many famous dignitaries voicing discontent against the planned stoning. The letter made an appearance in the Times, which has been running a campaign of sorts to stop the execution. The letter asked the Iranian Government to reconsider and think over the case and overturn the woman’s sentence, saying that she’s been through a lot already and on top of it now faces a gruesome death.

This move by people to stop something unfair from taking place is indeed commendable. Joining hands to stop wrong and unfair things from happening is necessary. It sparks a ray of hope that humanity still breathes somewhere, its light shining through the darkness, maybe feebly but yet, it very much exists and is real.

Heard about it and thought it was disgusting.  Someone said she was accused of sleeping with two men so they would kill her husband but I didn't look that part up.  Guilty or not stoning is unbelievably horrid and not the punishment that fits the crime.

I don't care if she slept with 100 men. That is horrid.

I am outraged, as a human being, that somewhere, someone is actually considering this as a form of punishment.

I agree Lips, very sad.

I believe no matter what, government doesn't have the right to take a human life. I know others don't feel the same way, that is just my opinion.

Hanging, Lethal Injection, any sort of death penalty is horrid to me.

Im all for removing the death penalty, and tbh a person that killed people should rather spend there whole life in a jailcell its a much bigger punishment that being send to death its a "easy" way out.

But these rules like in Iran for woman is crazy they are worth nothing to them, hope she gonna get free'd somehow she already been whipped 99times isent that enough its gonna leave scars for the rest of her life.

IMO, I do not want to pay for a child killer to sit in a comfortable cell, getting fed with cable and air conditioning for the rest of their life.  I say execute murderers, you gave up your rights as a human when you took another's life. If not that, then shove them in a tiny hole with moldy bread and brown water for the rest of their miserable lifes. Better yet, buy an island and just drop them all off on there and forget them.

In like usa isent the jails for murders pretty much screwed up? dident think they where living there comfortable with good food and stuff.

Else just put them in those extreme maximum super prisons, saw a documentary about those i would rather hang myself than be there lol.

I don't believe in the death penalty. I know others do, and I respect everyone's opinion.

My father was killed in front of me when I was a child, and you know what? I don't wish death on that man that took his life. What good would that do me? Would it bring him back? Would it undo what has been done? Would it unbreak my heart? The answer is NO.

That is just how I feel, and I will always feel that way.

Now I agree to kazzi as well, why let any of them take the easy way out? Let them sit in a cell every day and think about what they have done.
