  • Animal testing refers to the use of animals in experiments. It is estimated that 50 to 100 million vertebrate animals are used annually worldwide. Animals are either killed during experiments or subsequently euthanized.

Do you question the necessity of it?

The U.S. and British governments both support the advancement of medical and scientific goals using animal testing, provided that the testing minimizes animal use and suffering.

Many make a range of arguments: that it is cruel, poor scientific practice, cannot reliably predict effects in humans, poorly regulated, that the costs outweigh the benefits, or that animals have a right not to be used for experimentation.

    What are your feelings?

  •     I think they should use humans instead of animals

  • Considering the protests and complaints I say animals should be used for testing.

If you remember Thalidomide, the FDA refused to permit it as the testing (They felt) wasn't sufficient. So, the makers (Foreign) got around the rules and handed it out to doctors as an "Experimental" drug with no warnings.

17 babies were born with defects. How would be, if it had been your child?

  • I think common sense rules here.  If animals are needlessly being tortured, then NO.  But, some animals dying and suffering for the advancement of human quality of life....well, stick the little pink eyed bunny with the needle!!!

  • There are alternatives that can be used instead of torturing animal's, :'( this is 2009 not 1909--science has advanced so much, animal testing is not necessary--BUT--It's about the money$$$$$$$$$$$ is why animal's are still being tortured >:(--not out of necessity! • funny how many who protest against animal testing have no problem eating a steak...

  • Well.....people who are against animal experimentation (often) mean experimentation against CUTE animals like bunnies, dogs and cats.  I don't see any protests against experiments on flies, frogs, snakes and slugs.

  • Max,

You nailed it...........exactly. The same people who say "i can't eat bunnies they are too cute"......."i can't eat frog legs just wouldn't be right"......

But we can slaughter a cow for steak........
