  • Hi Guys and Dolls!!

Here is something i have often thought about that haunts me. If a member of society jumps in to rescue a person from harms way is that what makes a hero?

Now of course i am not referring to a person who risks their own life.....that truly is a hero. There was a story not too long ago about a man who had a heart attack in his car and a passer by called 911. He was considered a hero!!!

Acts of helping out mankind should be a natural instinct. Much too often there is praise given to acts of common decency that we all should have.

I will admit i have seen situations in my lifetime where people have simply walked away instead of helping a person on the street. I never quite understood that mentality.

There was once a situation where a group of girls were beating this girl up senseless as they had her on the ground in front of my house. Cars drove by....not even offering to help. People walked by and even stopped to watch the fight.

Not one single solitary person came to his girls aid. I flew to my phone to call 911 and headed out the door as fast as i could to break up the fight. I was so angry as the on lookers stood there and did nothing to help this girl.

Later the mother stopped by my house to thank you and said i was a hero to step in. I know in her eyes i probably was. But in reality..........that's not a hero. That is instinct.

Do you believe some are considered heroes when they shouldn't be? Even more so can someone explain how many have the "i don't want to get involved" mentality?

  • The act of saving someone from danger should be a natural instinct, but I would have to say that anyone that would do even the smallest thing to save someone I love, Would definitely be a hero to me!

  • I strongly believe that nowadays any person who helped another one, especially saved someone's life should be considered as a hero! As you said, lips, in our society there are so many examples when people just passed away...it's the worst most have lost or are losing their humanity! It seems to me that the idiom "Every man for himself" is becoming more and more actual!  :'( :'( :'(
I think any "action" should be seen and appreciated! Even if not something serious!
What's more, I believe that if people are appreciated, proud of themselves, they will do one more "good action"!!! So our world might become a bit better... tongue tongue tongue

  • Not too long ago I had written the following story of one of many incidents that happened in my life -

One day after leaving a club and standing around talking to friends in the parking lot, I hear a girl scream for help. I looked and realize she was one of our friends. She was surrounded by a bunch of other girls who were hitting and pushing her to the ground. Quickly I ran to her and intervened. I grabbed my friend out of harms way and put her into one of our cars and told the driver to take off. As the car drove off, it ran over one of the girls foot. I believe one of the guy friends of this girl must have thought I had hit  her or something because he drew a gun...and pointed it right at me. I turned and ran as fast as I could and then BANG!!!! miracously just moments before I had lost my balance and fell. As I fell, I heard a high pitch whizzzzz go right by my ear...the sound of the gunshot and me falling seemed simultaneous ...it looked as if was hit. Another group guys ran up to me as I was lying there out of breath and gasping for air. As I attemped to get back up, I was greeted with a kick to the back of my head and then another one to my side causing me to fall back to the ground. Once I was down, the kicks just kept coming. I stayed in a fetal position until finally bouncers from the club came over to break things up. An ambulance came and the paramedics insisted that I allow them to bring me in to get checked. And so, I got checked  out and amazingly I wasn't hurt at all - even the next day not even a bruise. The girl came by to thank me for helping her. I couldn't believe what i was hearing when she told me why she was ambushed by those girls. They wanted her shoes! She had a pair of docks and those girls wanted to roll her for them. Cwazy!!!

  • The label of HERO is like looking at art....its all in the eye of the beholder.

  • Soda, you're a real HERO!  kiss kiss
The story is crazy! It's like a scene from an action film! Glad you weren't hurt!

  • amazingly i have more...here's another that i just remembered...

it was at the same club..this time inside...i was with my group of friends on the dance floor and having a good time....when a bouncer approached me to tell me my friend Sing is in trouble. The bouncer lead the way as I followed him to the back of the club and into a restricted area. From there he lead me to a narrow hall or stairwell...it was poorly lit but enough to see Sing confronted by another guy who I also knew - however I can't remember his name (refer to him as "the guy" herein) but I do remember the guy belonged to an asian gang that you do not want to mess with. This night was Sing's first time coming out with my friends to this club I knew Sing did not know them. Sing lived in the same area of the city as I did and we had been friends throughout highschool. Another thing to know about Sing - he is a great fighter - learning kungfu from his father. However, this time I feared this would be a fight he would not win and would get seriously injured. And I was right...just as I arrived...the guy reached behind his back to pull out a knife..I grabbed Sing's shoulder, pulled him back hard and tripped him causing him to fall behind me. As he fell he swore at me but i think it was because i had caught him off guard and not knowing it was me. Once he acknowlegded who I was...he stopped the swearing, dusted himself off and stood behind me....

  • sorry had to start a new post...as the page kept bouncing up and down..character limit? dunno.

anyway...so there i was standing in between Sing who was behind me...and the guy who now had the tip of his knife piercing my chest. the guy starting yelling at me to mind my own business and get out of the way...during this time pressure would be applied to the knife and my chest every so often to make his point that he was serious. I just stood there never taking my eyes off of the guy. finally he stopped yelling allowing me to finally speak..."i don't know what happened, but this guy (Sing) is a good guy...and is a good friend...if he didn't respect you its because he doesn't know you..it's his first time here...he not know...ok?" With that the guy pulled the knife back and concealed it in his back pocket. The guy then leaned over to speak to Sing..."You lucky Ed your friend...if Ed not here...you...no more." He then leaned into me..."ok come...tell him (Sing) come...we go drink" Phewww...I brought Sing up to the VIP room at sat with the guy and his boyz'n girlz..and drank (another thing you should know...i actually didn't like alcohol but for Sings sake I drank that night). One the way home..Sing told me how he never gets scared except for this time....inside he was freaking out.

  • oh just add to my first story....about 8 years after the incident....a friend needed a favour...he needed a ride to his doctor's appointment and then to work after. i remember offering him a lift. it was a 40 min drive from the doctor's office to the company where my friend worked. we got into a conversation about the old school days and how things were yada yada....

and then he told me about a night in front of "the" club in the parking lot and how he almost shot a guy because he was crazy in love with the girl who had her foot run over..as listen i couldn't help shaking my head, at first in disbelief but afterward in laughter...i waited to stop at a red light before I turned to him and said..."Yo!! That was me you almost shot.."...his face just looked as if he had seen a ghost..and then for the remainder of the ride to his work....he kept apologizing...and telling me he didn't know...i told him "it was alright..its the past...and here we are as friends being able to talk about...that's amazing."

since that day...whenever we should happen to see each other again..it's a topic that always come up.
