  • Do you think that a 2 year old could have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder? Is it genetic? The reason I am asking is because my 2 year old Brooklyn, has been doing some things lately that have gotten my attention.

First let me say, I don't know if it could be hereditary, but my brother in-law, her uncle, has OCD. He does rituals, handwashing etc etc.

Anyways, lately Brooklyn has been tapping her fingers usually a certain amount of times, all day long. She will go crazy if a door in the house is left open, and forget it if you leave a cupboard open, she goes crazy. She has to close the door and lock it twice before she goes to bed, and she will only use a certain bottle out of about 10 bottles we have. She also has to have her clothes warm from the dryer, and she will only wear red shoes. There are some other things also.

I know this sounds ridiculous, but I swear it's true. I thought maybe she was just going through a phase, but it seems like she is doing more things like this, not less. I did some googling and I found somethings about toddlers and OCD, I was just curious about others take on this.

  • I'm no expert MommyMachine so I don't think anything I say would be of any use so here is a useful link that explains about it and also about it in children.

  • My daughter had a few things she had to have just right so, paticular shoes, always a napkin with anything she ate folded a certain way, her bed always made a certain way, a few other things. If something was not acceptable to her she would work it for however long it took until she was satisfied. This used to bother me at first, although my daughters was no where near as how yours is doing, i was not concerned, maybe i should have. She has grown from it still having some rituals, when she entered school is when it all started to subside, she had more things to think about so it kind gave way.

I'd read up on it Mommy and ask the doctor, sometimes their little brains do overload, or get stuck on something because theres nothing else for them to do, understand what i mean?

  • Yeah I am looking into it. The insurance thing is once again a problem. Still no BC from vegas...

Anyways, the reason I am so concerned about it is because of her uncle having it. I did read that is thought to be hereditary. My husband thinks it's just because she is 2 and that I spoil her..but he has no idea what she really does, he sleeps during the day and is at work at night, so most of her "rituals" are during those times.

She also has to put her clothes on twice, and in steps..if you miss a step, you have to start all over. She is so young, so this really amazes me. I mean for a 2 year old to have rituals huh , I have never heard of this.

  • Not a doctor, but have you thought about a diagnosis on the autism spectrum. Certain children with a form of autism have to have thing a certain way and if it isn't, it just messes up their whole day. The spectrum varies from mild asperger's to more severe cases. Just a thought of a mommy of a child who is living with autism.
