It's Official, Facebook Reaches 1 Billion Users

Facebook has reached the 1 billion user mark. Staff including Mark Zuckerberg watched as the numbers climbed.

“I don’t even know if we knew who the billionth person was,” Zuckerberg said.

“We were just these college students, and who were we to build this big thing? Clearly, there were other companies used to building software at scale, and one of them would do it.”

Are you a facebook user? What do you think is the key to its success? It must be all those Zynga farms, cafes, poker, slots and bingo games right? 

I use FB and several of my family members also use FB.  None of us participate much in the gaming side of the application that I know of with the exception of my husband Jacob, who is heavy into the role-playing games, and then my sister and I play Scrabble. 

But I do know lots of people who apparently LOVE all that Zynga stuff and are constantly wanting me to feed their animals or participate in playing other games.  I saw a Zynga gift card the other day at the store.  I guess a lot of people are spending money playing some games?  Maybe I'm missing something.

I think the ability to post pictures, keep track of friends and family, and to communicate easily to everyone you want to communicate with is probably also a big part of the reason FB has been so successful.

I do use Facebook and I am amazed at how big it became in a rather short period of time. I'm not an addict though but I know a few people that are planning their lives depending on when they have to harvest their crops in Farmville

I do have a facebook account but only because all my family has one too and it's a great way to keep in touch across the miles.

I am surprised that their share price keeps falling though.

I used to have an account there, but I don't use it anymore. I'm not surprised that there are so many users but that's just not my cup of tea.

It is amazing how FB has grown. They are taking over everything! I think before long they may knock Google off their feet and it can be used as the next search engine  .
