  • Hi LCB’ers,

Anyone who's ever wondered if an older man's companion is his daughter or his date knows attraction isn't all biological. Sometimes, it's logical.

During one study, researchers asked women to look at the face of a man whom she knows nothing about and rate his attractiveness on a scale of 1 to 10. Then, they showed women the same face, but this time, the photo was paired with a corresponding income.

The results? When a man makes a lot of money, a woman will rate him higher on an attractiveness scale than she would rate that same man if he had a smaller income.

This doesn't prove that women are gold diggers. It goes back again to evolution. When we were having babies who were very dependent on us, we couldn't hunt and take care of ourselves, so we were looking for the man who had the most social status, who was the best hunter, who was going to bring home the biggest chunk of meat for our babies," she says. It's the same thing today.

I can see some truth in this. Do you think sometimes women are accused of being gold diggers when in fact it’s the comfort in knowing there is some form of finacial stability?

Unfortunately, women that think realistically and beyond love as what they are looking for in a long term relationship in today’s society are labeled that way.  Most still have a belief in the Happily Ever After and love is all you need which of course is important but other factors can be just as important.
    Nice Topic :-)
    Cheers,

  • Interesting study.

  • My psychological background would agree with that study.  I realize this will sound sexist, but women have a bit of programing (based on historical, anthropological formation...NOT biology) to look for a "provider."  Now, the basis of this is a male who will provide a decent "hut-food-and warm skins" for her children.  Over the ages, this has morphed.  One of those morphed manifestations is women who look for Sugar Daddy's.

Some men do look for Sugar Mammas, but they do so for different reasons.

  • Well, Me being a woman who has supported herself over half her life, and every single handsome man i ever dated, he either had no income or mine was more then triple his, even some handsome men with very high intelligence, were mostly dreamers or gold diggers themselves. It was the less attractive men, older men that had the loot, the better job.. and what have you..i have no idea why it happens this way.
It sure would be nice to have a handsome, intelligent, witty dreamer with some money to boot!
Though it's not what i look for, its what i noticed when i think about it.
