  • Hiya Guys and Dolls,

    Here is the situation.......(purely hypothetical)

You work at a bank as a teller and one of your co-workers has stole 20k out of the safe. The reason is her son needs an operation and without it, he will die. She didn't have the money and seized the opportunity.

    Would you tell on her?

  • That's a toughie for me since my son has a diease with no cure.I know I'd do anything to help my son and if she had no options,I might keep my mouth shut.  :-X embarrassedI could definately  understand why if it would save her child.
  • I don't know but seems part of your duties as a teller would be to protect the money.  Assuming that is the case, I'd report it.  I'm sure the bank would have helped set up a fund for the child's surgery and there could have been many other ways to have obtained the needed cash other than stealing from the employer.  Probably illegal to know about an embezzlement and not report it- you become a part of the crime.`  Your co-worker should have stolen from somewhere else!

  • I would tell anonymously.  Whose to say the bad Karma from stealing the money would do anyone any good?  Moreover you have Unites States "Patriot Act" the person who knows about the crime someone else could tell the government about your failure to stop the theft (or at least your involvement).

  • No, I wouldn't tell and I would hope others would keep their mouth shut for me, if ever, God Forbid, I was in the situation to save my child.

I've seen enough non hypothetical situations where folks went to jail for stealing food and diapers for their families.

What's the name of the movie with the man who held the hospital hostage to get his son an operation?  It was Q something. smiley

Does that mean yes, you would keep a secret, but only if you got a cut. wink
  • she would have gotten her son insured because she knew her son has been ill.
For whatever reasons she couldn't get medical insurance for her son and it came out to this, I would tell her NO, NO, NO, don't do it.  Stealing is wrong and it is not a solution.  I understand if there's no money to pay for the opereation her son will die, but there'll be another way to pay for her son's operation, to save his life.  You will be caught, it doesnt matter how carefully your plan will be, her son might be saved, but he still needs her support, but she can't be there for him no more, she might spend 15, 20 years or the rest of her life in prison.  I heard story about a mother can lift 2000-3000 lbs truck to save her baby because the truck will run over her baby and I beleive it.  There's nothing can compared to the love of the mother to her child, that love gave her all strenght she needed to lift that truck.  In this situation, if she can not think straight she would steal that 20K.  I don't know where she lives, but if she lives in the US, she just sign some kind of papers to have her son do the surgery without insurance, then ask the hospital pesonels to have an application to buy the medical insurance which will later pay for her son operation's fees and everything, the insurance company must sell her insurance (maybe a little bit at higher rate, but affordable).  I know no doctors will deny dying patients just because the patients don't have the money or don't have enough money, if the doctors do, his or her doctor lisense should be taken away.  No hospitals will deny dying patients just because the patients don't have or don't have enough money, if the hospitals do, that hospital should be closed down.   As I understand that the US laws require hospitals to provide EMERGENCY care to anyone until that someone is in stable condition.

  • Yes, she should be turned in.  She is commiting a theft.  Period.  And, if the witness didn't turn her in, then they are guilty as an accessory to the crime.

But......under Obama-Care this woman can have her kid operated on for free!  So, the taxpayers once again pick up this tab.

  • I wouldn't tell, definitely. But I would try to persuade that colleague to put that money back and think twice before doing something like that.

  • That's a tough one. As much as I would feel for her situation I wouldn't want to risk my job.
Maybe I'd let her get away with the money and have the surgery done. Then give an anonymous note to the bosses. She probably wouldn't care at that point because at least she knows her child will be OK.

Yep, that's my plan at the moment.

  • no i wouldnt tell but i would try to talk her out of it and suggest other options

  • It is a tough question because we are battling our hearts against our minds.

With everything in me i wouldn't want to tell and don't think i would. On the other hand i would be a part of the crime for not coming forward. I think i would lean towards not telling to be honest. A small price to pay if it saves a child's life.

  • Why does the solution involve commiting a crime?  Someone can call their elected official and find a rich donor to fund the operation--or even the Red Cross (they're big enough to lend a hand).
