Just to Funny...

Hey Gang,

Have a little story about a discussion I had with my 8 year old daughter... here is how it went...

We were talking about our family heritage this morning over breakfast. I told her that she was part Italian, Puerto Rican, Norwegian, English, Indian and Scottish. She asked me if my parents came from India, (lol) I said no that my mother came from Italy and that my father came from Puerto Rico. But her great grandmother was 100% Indian, she married her great grandfather when he moved to the USA from Norway.

She was looking at me all puzzled, so I asked what is wrong. She then says "Mom I don't get it." I said get what?  She says " How can I be part Indian and part Pilgrim?" I had to get up and let the dog out I was laughing so hard, I didn't want to laugh in her face. When I came back to the breakfast table she said "How can that be?" I didn't know what to say so I said, "You know that is a good question for your teacher. Ask him that today."

Can't wait for her to come home now because I know she will ask her teacher and I am dieing to know what he says....... Just to funny.

Love it when my kids say stuff like that. Makes it all worth having children.

Oh, and that's exactly what I would have done too---"ask your teacher"...haha

Great story LH.  It will be interesting to hear what your daughter has to say when she comes home.

Don't you love these kinds of stories.  I have a few from when my son was younger that still make me giggle to this day.

It is just so cute and I love it. I wish my 15 year old daughter was 8 again and ask me questions like that...instead she ask me all the weird stuffs...(better not mention in here...lol) but I do learn so much from my daughter sometimes more than I can handle...

Just got this e-mail from my daughters teacher....

Hi Mrs. Hofsdal,

I would like to inform you about a question Hannah has asked me today when she got to school. Hannah told me you were telling her that she was part Indian, but could not tell her how she can be part Indian and part Pilgrim. My mouth must have fallen open because Hannah said to me, I know I can't figure it out either. That is when I find out that you told her to ask me. Again, my mouth must have fallen opened, because she said, My mom doesn't know, you don't know and I don't know. There has got to an answer.

Now I know you well enough to know that getting into marriage and having childern with her would not be the way to go, because you would have told her this yourself.  Then I came up with an idea, why not have her ask her classmates and have a discussion and see what the other children have to say, and maybe just maybe that would satisfy her curiousty.  Well during our class discussion one student said that a pilgrim married an indian and they had kids so that makes everyone part pilgrim and part indian. Whew, I thought that would satisfy her. Nope, because another student said that was over a million years ago so how can we be related to them. So I chimed in and said that is how your family tree starts. Boy did I open a can of worms with that statement with Hannah. After a few minutes of the class discussing this, Hannah gets out a book from the classroom book wall and finds a picture of an Indian. Then says to me how can I be part indian, they have dark skin and black hair, I am white with brown hair. THANK GOD YOU HAVE OLIVE COLORED SKIN AND BLACK HAIR! That is all I can say. Because when I pointed that out to her she thought for a second and said your right. My mother is part indian and pilgrim and doesn't know it. I am telling her when I get home. I asked her if that answers her question and with a big smile she said yes. So I said  "I am glad your happy that you got your answer." This is what she said to me. "I am happy that I got an answer but I am really happy to go home and tell mom something she doesn't know. She always says she knows everything because she is mom, guess she doesn't know everything now does she."

I must admit Mrs. Hofsdal, Hannah just brightens up my day. She always has question and will not be satisfied until she gets an answer. So please Mrs. Hofsdal, when she gets home play along with this. I can not afford to sweat off another 20 pounds, people in this building would really think I have an eating disorder. You do have a wonderful little girl with a very active mind, and that is a good thing. Being a teacher I see so many students that just follow their peers in their way of thinking, but not Hannah. A part of me thinks she will be running this country some day because she is one smart cookie and a very determined little girl.

I hate to ask this but I have to know what she says when she comes home. Please e-mail me back and tell me because it is killing me just sitting here thinking about it.
