  • There is a programme on the TV about long lost family where perhaps a mother has given up her child for adoption because she was too young to look after the child or where family members have fallen out years ago and lost touch but want to find each other again.

It is the most moving show and it got me thinking again about my long lost half brother or sister (I don't even know whether it was a boy or girl). I would love to find my half brother or sister - I don't know if they know that I, along with all my brothers and sisters, exist.

Is there anyone in your family you lost touch with that you found years later or just lost touch and have never found them.  I understand that talking about something like this can be quite painful and I  would totally understand if nobody replied.

  • It can be a very sensitive topic, I was adopted. When I hit about 20 my birth mother found me and wanted to get to know me.  I wanted nothing to do with her for the longest time, but I slowly got to get to know her. We still are working on our relationship, I'm trying to keep an open mind and see what the future holds.

That must be reallly tough fried-eggs, for both of you.  I hope it works out as you wish it to and thanks so much for sharing.
  • Blue - Have you started the process of looking for your sibling yet? We have shows similar to that in the US and for the most part it is a very positive and uplifting experience. I hope it turns out that way for you if decide to pursue it or already have.

Yes I have started the process Lips.  My brother and I have been delving into our family history but without success at the moment on this part of it - it's all very complicated.
  • I do have a cousin that we all miss, for some reason he prefers to move away and avoid all contact with the family. He popped up a few years back, spent a couple of months with us and then disappeared again. I'm always sending him emails, his mother does too, he never replies. Hopefully he will come back again, at least for another couple of months.

That's really sad Johnny and obviously quite a worry.  I hope you hear from him soon.
  • I don't know if the show is still on, but we had something like that here, as well, But the reason I didn't watch it was that they turned into a charade, at least that was my impression. It's such a delicate subject to talk about and very difficult for all people involved. Hopefully Blue, you'll get in touch with your sibling.

Thanks for sharing fried-eggs; I really hope you two will come to some kind of understanding. It is very tough.

I don't have any similar experience but many years ago, my grandmother (my father's mother) divorced her husband. I grew up without him and honestly I have never had any need to meet him. No need to get into details, but now when he's almost 100, he came back into our lives claiming that I'm his grandson and heir (as if my brother and sister don't exist), but all he wants is to show me off to people in his town and control my life. It's pathetic. That man doesn't have a shame.

  • Thanks Markotik.

That's another sad story to hear on so many different levels.  I guess he's not long for this world and he's just trying to make the most of it while he is still around.  He is clearly proud of you although his previous actions don't say that.
