Don't be afraid of the medication or anything else.  I know it is easy to say now, as I quit. Yet I remember being afraid. Without cigarettes I just wanted to cry.  They were my best friend.  Don't let the fear stop you.

I think its time  for an update how have you been doing.  I am still hanging in their its been a hard mth. But all is well with me

Over a month? I'm thrilled for you and can't wait till I get my chance. No, those smokes weren't your friend, just a damn crutch and I'm glad you threw it away, you ARE stronger then you think and now you're proving it!!

  Thanks for your continued support and questions about how I am doing now that I have made the turn to non smoking.

  I have been a non smoker now since about the miiddle of December.   

My taste is coming back, and my smells seemed to of increased a great deal too. Everything they tell you about smoking is true. It does take your senses away from you.  Yet even with all that, I still struggle in the morning somedays with looking for them before I am fully awake, and realizing I dont have them anymore.  I still think of them quite a bit thru my day, and wish I had one when things get stressful.  Yet I will not go back to it.  I have come to far now. I will never go back.  My body is responding well , and each morning my lungs thank me for another day of fresh air.

I have not yet praised myself for quitting. It is all so new to me. I still feel I am in the tender beginning phases of the whole process.  Praise will come later on when I have about 2 months under my belt, or even more.  As for now, I still go day to day with it.

I do thank the drug Chantix for this.  It truely worked for me.  I was a terriible smoker, and yet I quit. If I can do this, anyone can.

I will start the first New Year as a non smoker for the first time in many many years, and for that, I guess I am just a little proud of myself.

I am soooooo proud of ya Pam!!!!!  Sorry it took so long for me to make a post, I AM VERY PROUD OF U!!!!  I guess maybe I am a bit jealous, no that isn't it, I'm just not ready to quit. (yet)

Keep it up hun, just think of all the "extra" money you have to gamble with. 

Proud  Damn right Pam.  You have every right to be proud of your achievement.  To kick a habit such as smoking in such a short time is amazing.  To say "yet I will not go back on it" is also pretty amazing too.  To be that positive and strong is a huge achievement.  Its one thing to give up and its another to stay given up.

Ok we need an update

Doing well over here with the not smoking.

Feeling more energy, and I am trying to learn to live without them.

Still think of them every day. I still look for them, and then realize I have quit.

Alas: I still miss them, but my body does not.

Not yet but I have to really.  I just can't afford it any more and I will feel better without them.

Have you noticed that your facial skin looks amazing?  Apparently, this is one of the things that you benefit from being a non-smoker.

Pam, yes.. im quiting on my own, 18 years i've been smoking, out of those 18 i've smoked regularly for 15 years, my first 3 years just kind of off and on..
From a pack a day.. im down to 5 cigs a day for the past 3 weeks now, my goal is to get to 3, then try from there to go cold turkey...

I've been doing extra things to keep my mind off them, staying away from the casinos (cuz they made me smoke more)
The hardest part for me is after eating and when i have coffee..

I totally look up to you in your accomplishment, this is one of the most difficult things to do is giving up a habit that at a time we loved.
My most difficult part will be when i get to cold turkey, right now i still have a little pacifier, its scarey almost.

hi pals sorry to interrupt but here in italy are experimenting a vaccine against cigarettes dependence after that if you light a cigarette you will have nausea and feel sick not bad as reaction

Sounds like the drug they used to give alcoholics. Makes you heave your guts, but reminds you what you're not supposed to be doing.
