  • OK folks, I recieved a "Tickle" from the temp service (One of 4 I am registered with) and they have said one company (Electronic) is interested in me. This is clean room work (Bunny suit as they say) and so I am in GREATneed for your positive thoughts, prayers of good wishes.

I don't know which schedule they'd give me (Either 3 on and 3 off or 2 on 2 off all 12 hour shifts and either night or day) I don't care it's WORK!

This kind of reminds me of the time I worked for Tektronix. I was in clean room and we had a joke "If you see the cleanroom people walk out the cleanroom while the shift is going, there's going to be a fire drill. If they are RUNNING out the door in their outfits START RUNNING!" laugh_out_loud
  • Yayyyyyyyyy genenco!  Got my fingers, toes, legs, arms, and eyes crossed for you!!!  dizzy

I know what you are going thru... my husband just got work after almost 2 years and starts Monday, so he is going to be a grown-up newspaper boy, but who cares? It is a JOB!!!  The relief of that is unimaginable! I wish you the same relief and joy!

  • OK, wow kind of jumped the gun as they didn't explain it to me at first.

Now I am in "Delimma" mode.

The company I thought I was for sure, turns out to be wanting a "Ready Pool" of workers. I could wait 10 hrs or 20 WEEKS for the call.

Pay is good, hours and shifts are sort of wild...3 on, 2 off, 2 on, three off...Really goofy.

Now here's where it gets fun.

Yesterday, thinking I was OK, I was called by a temp service. I turned them down.

Then while waiting for the interview, I was called by a third employer for work. This one is in Oregon, so I pay personal income taxes. More bite in the wallet and it's low pay too. (Both 2 & 3 employers are $9.18 or less per hour)

MY UI runs out next week. Ummm..I have prepared for a lifestyle change and am prepared for that. But now I am beset with the choices.

Do I dare drop the "Ready pool" and call back employer 2 and tell them that I will accept them? Or go with no 3 and then if the call comes, drop them and go with employer 1?

Yes, you can give me advice...I am worrying for nothing as it will work out...I hope laugh_out_loud
  • What's UI? Unemployment...something?

I would go with number 2 and drop em when you hear from number 1..unless of course, you enjoy the number 2 work.

Either way, you have to think about getting yourself an income as something is definitely better than nothing at all.

  • Yes Blue UI = Unemployment insurance.

Funny thing is, I dithered about for 30 minutes and came to the same conclusion! laugh_out_loud

So I called No 2 and left a message. Bird in the hand thinking right now.

The thing is, No2 is in Vancouver, so no major income bite. So I will wait and see if they respond.

Thanks for the advice too.  kiss kiss

  • I would go where the money is now gene. If it takes up to 20 weeks to get a call back at least in the mean time you won't be up nights worrying yourself sick.

    Lips
  • Gene, is the #2 job a temp job? You said it was from a temp agency and I'm thinking they expect folks to leave for a better position... just a thought.

  • Well, here's what's going on so far.

No. 1 I may hear back from if I even made it into the "Ready Pool" which still is a "wait and see"

No.2 had already found another candidate. The company is looking at them first, if they decline, I am in. Yes this is a temp to hire, just like No. 1

No. 3 the interview is at 10:15 am and this will be security in OR, which is a bigger tax bite.

No. 3 may not want me, as I would still be looking (Of course it's been 2 years since last worked), so they may not want me to come as I'd be gone like a shot if a WA job opened.

Now, I CAN survive with No 3 if I take it. Yes it would be low, but the net pay will keep me afloat. Anyway, have "Other" issues dealing with, but trying to focus on what would be best at the moment.

Money coming in obviously would be better then sitting and still waiting and hoping.

  • OK Just an update.

None of the jobs panned out. Yet, I had a offer from an agency I didn't think would work, well, it did and so I am working (Just finished 39 hours) so everything is going ok so far. Hopefully in 3-5 weeks, I'll be buying a van.

Otherwise nothing much else is going on. The only drawback is TIME. Alot if time sitting, reading and pondering, but no netting laugh_out_loud

    Have a good week folks.

  • Gene~~~
So good to hear back from you as we were all concerned and wondering how you were doing despite the fact that we knew you were trying everything in your power to make things working and did let us know a head of time that you won't be able to come here as much...but still...

What a great news that you brought us today.
    Way to go,Gene,YAY!!!
You are doing right...just one step at a time cause it will only distract one's minds if rush things...
I was wondering with hope that I m not crossing any line to ask but instead of buying a van, why not renting a small studio to settle in when you are ready? huh
Regardless, I am just happy to hear you re doing alright.
My thoughts are always with you,my friend! smiley

  • Gene!!!!!!!!!

Ahhhhhhh i am so glad you got back to us. You have preyed on my mind as i am sure many of us here. Great news you got a job. The power of prayer huh?

I think what touches me the most about you and your situation is your confidence and your positive outlook. You didn't come here and say woe is me. You are a true inspiration and what you are going through shows true character. I think that is what gets me the most about this whole story.

You are a fighter and fighters win. When you are reflecting in your alone time, remember one thing. Be proud of who you are as a man. It's not about materialistic things. It's about true grit and the outlook you have taken in one of the most difficult times anyone could face.

  • Gene,so glad to hear you are doing ok.My thoughts are with you and I wish you the best exclamation Keep your chin up and know that we care a great deal about you.

Well done on the job front.

    Keep in touch.

    blue

  • Gene - Congratulations on the job! You are a true inspiration in trying times...  thumbs_up

  • GOOD LUCK GENE !hope to see you around more often as you used to be ! money
