Racist woman on a flight

A snooty woman on a BA flight was one of the the last people to board an aeroplane.  She went to take her seat but as soon as she saw the black man sitting in the middle of the 3 seats, she called a member of the cabin crew to ask if she could be moved as she didn't want to sit next to him (I won't quote what she is alleged to have said).

The stewardess said that she would speak to the captain to see if she could get an upgrade.  After a few minutes the attendant returned.  She said "It is most extraordinary to make this kind of upgrade, however, and I have had to get special permission from the captain. But, given the circumstances, the captain felt that it was outrageous that someone be forced to sit next to such an obnoxious person."

Before the woman has a chance to respond, the stewardess continues "So if you'd like to get your things, sir, I have your seat ready for you...".  Apparently at this point, the surrounding passengers stood and gave a standing ovation while the gentleman gathers his things and walks up to the front of the plane.

What a brilliant story!  People like her make me sick and I think BA did a fantastic job there.

that was the right thing to do what BA did, and at the end of the day it sadens me to say this, but there will always be people who have such Prejudices in this world, they will never go away. wish it all would but it wont

Absolutely awesome story and justice was served! What in the world would make that woman think that she would receive such special accommodations for such a vile reaction to another passenger? She def had a screw loose.

Really good story, but I'm not surprised that such people still exist... unfortunately. That was a great move by BA and it should be a clear message to everyone.

Like anyone who walks this Earth, I have prejudices. It's the racists that shame us all! Besides hate being a monumental waste of energy, to hate someone for the skin they were born in is just ridiculous to me. But alas, I likely wouldn't have to throw a rock too far to hit one still today

That's an awesome story and I can't think of a better way to handle a situation like this. British Airways certainly accommodated her!

Thanks for the great story blueday! BA has my admiration for the way they handled the situation. I suppose she thought sitting next to him would bring the black in her heart to the surface... little did she know that being in the same plane did just that without sitting next to him!

Hats off to the captain and the crew, that was the right thing to do and they did it. Sounds simple but doing the right thing is often more difficult than it seems.
