  • I was reading this article.
To me it can only happen in books or movies. smiley

Naomi Jacobs, 34, woke up in 2008 but believed she was just about to sit her GCSE exams in the summer of 1992.

The last thing she could remember was falling asleep in her bunk bed as a schoolgirl. She was horrified to learn she was living in the 21st century, and was even mother to an 11-year-old boy she did not recognize.

Doctors revealed that Naomi had been under so much stress that part of her brain had simply closed down, erasing many memories of her life.

She was left baffled by the internet, and flummoxed by her mobile phone as she struggled to get to grips with modern life.

Today, three years after waking up in the future, Naomi has finally regained most of her memory, and has written a book about her experiences.

I do not believe that this case is true.
As the last sentence speaks of her writing a book.
I believe that amnesia is true and could be a mixed blessing.
If you had amnesia, would you like the same foods or music or would you like the opposite?

  • I've read/seen/heard about very weird cases of amnesia.

Yeah, I believe it could happen but stress seems like a iffy reason.  A tragic accident, tragic loss or event may trigger it  but stress most of us have....no.

    Cute new photo, nan! smiley

  • stress is very hard mentally and physically.  I remember when I was going through the most stressful time in my life, I would simply break out ALL over my body, i mean the soles of my feet, my palms, head to toe with what looked like mosquito bites,  They would come and then simply go.  My stress caused me not to eat for a month.  I do mean that, too.  I was on the verge of having to go to the hopital.  Not trying to hijack the thread, just wanted to point out that it could very well happen. Our minds do what they have to.

  • You both actually brought up a very good cause/point in there.
Stress can cause the most interesting/unpleasant symptoms.
I have been so stressed that I may have forgotten things but not that many years. wink
I am thankful to find several ways to cope with stress...

  • The story is quite similar to the one I've seen in a movie, "Goodbye, Lenin!", and as far as I remember that movie was based on a true story... Anyway, I'd like to have "selective" amnesia, there are some things I'm trying to forget...

  • It is amazing what our intricate brain will do to stay resilient. And thank God for some of these coping mechanisms when things happen that are so unbearable we can't deal with them. Something inside kicks in and takes over til we can........
