Renting is great, searching sucks

So, my landlord informed me that I have to be out by the 15th of May. "No problem" I said "I have found a great rental" so he was happy and so was I. Today, they (The new rental) wanted me to move in next week and pay even more...

"Excuse me, but I wasn't planning on moving in till May 1st" I said.

"We don't want to lose alot of money and we have others waiting" They replied.

"Well go ahead with them" I said (No cursing either!)

So, I hung up and checked the ads. Well, well, well..Guess who has now listed a room that's available??? Yeah, people waiting right...Bastards...

Good side? I have just now spoken with another guy who is offering a room and he sounds pleasant and best of all, everyone is in late-mid 40's so that a positive. I'll check out the room tomorrow...


What really cracks me up, is when some guy advertises for a "Female Roommate ONLY"..Hey guy just admit you want sex and money

Lmao genenco... i haven't been rental hunting in 7 years, i always got lucky though, first one i call is the first one i got..

Rentals vary so much across the country be curious to know what the average rental is for an apartment or room.

Is the room you looked furnished already? Those are nice.

The one which was wanting me to move in early, was furnished. I have some "Good" stuff, so I don't want to let it go, but I would have (After asking older sis who gave it to me )

Well, the funny thing is that in searching, I have come across some interesting landlords.

One didn't care if I was a criminal...Was NOT about to do a background check, but was worried about my credit. When I said "I have people chasing me" he got REALLY nervous.

The one I am with now checked nothing. NO credit or background. (Risky with the heinous crimes occuring around here)

The one now only wants to check criminal and a bit of "Do you have judgements for eviction or property damage?" Mainly concered about prop damage. Now the best thing about this one, is the place is closer to school and is less cost.

So I gave him the $35 for the checks, I'll chat with him Tuesday and have to SQUEEZE out the money as since I have no employer, he's a bit "Nervous" about my renting and so I have to pony up $800...But I'm 99% sure to make it and get the rental.

Can't spend more then $8.22 per day for the next 13 days

It's a good thing that my landlord is one hell of a guy. With this worldwide financial mess he understands and sympathize with people affected by it. I've used up my deposit and advance of 3 months. In fact this coming month I told him that I'll be short of about 30% of rental. Told me to just to make it up next time.

Good luck Gene. You definitely did the right thing by telling those money leeches, you weren't ready to move it...I hate those pressuring ultimatums people throw around, its so rude.

Well, seems this recent "Good Guy" was only interested in getting my $35...He's relisted his ad (Like the other one) and hasn't called me...I ahve called him, but I guess he's decided to be a thief.

Yep..Have to continue looking. Have 2 more to see...Have to relax some "Desires" to get a place nearby. Like I said "This sucks"

I have to apologize now for jumping to a conclusion..Though only based on what I saw. I just got a call form the landlord, I was rejected due to another tennant who didn't feel comfortable with me being a "student" and not working full time.

I can actually understand that..The landlord is refunding my $35 though, so that's a plus....Yep, contacted some more people..(Sigh) I am happy and still looking with a "Positive" attitude

Well, at least my faith in humanity has been temporarily restored.
I can't wait to leave Ohio and move back west but Im really not looking forward to the apartment hunt, I dont envy you one but.

Well, I had gotten an appointment with one landlord. So I headed out to go see the place ($500 with all included) As I was driving, my phone rang.

Now Washington has a law which you can't be using the phone while driving. So I pulled over. Surprise! It's from another landlord (Who was loads cheaper) and he asked if I could see the place.

I told him I'd see him tomorrow and where was he? He gave me the address. As I finished writing and hung up, guess who should be behind me but a STATE TROOPER!! Ekkk!!

"Are you ok Sir?"

"Yes, I pulled over to answer my phone"

"Well, that's fine, glad you are following the rules. Thought you'd broken down. Have a good day"

So, I went to the first appointment, I was greeted by no less then 12 SCREAMING kids..."I think I'll pass" I thought.

Met the lady and said "I had another landlord call me and I accepted, just stopped to tell you" I said. She thanked me for that and off I went.

Looking at the other offers address, I began to think "Could he be close?" I started heading north and in 15 minutes I was at his place.

The room is smaller. But so is the rate ($375) and we started chatting. Turns out he's on the lease, 25 years old and has a 2.5 year old who came out and grabbed my leg and smiled up at me.

I had just passed the "Ashley" test. So I have a place and while screaming kids aren't high on my list of "acceptable" I'll accept her as the rent is super cheap and close to school.

I only pray everything goes as well with the school...This has been a very stressful moment in my life.

Everything in school will go fine, its just the normal anticipatory jitters.
Oddly enough, I've found that children and pets make better housemates than most adults!
