Security software

I was wondering if anyone knows a good (free) security software out there that they are using and happy with, i have used quite a few, panda, norton, etc... i am currently using one called f-secure and its getting on my nerves so any advice will be very helpful. Thank you in advance.

I use AVG it is a real good anti virus program....and the beauty of it is, it is free. I also have Norton but prefer AVG to it. A friend of mine who is a computer wiz recommended it to me when i was having serious hacker problems. I have not had a prob since.

I have nortons "Endpoint" on mine which is not free but I use Trend's housecall free scan bi-weekly just to be safe. The advantage to this is that because none of trends files are stored on my harddrive it can recognize anything that got past endpoint (altering endpoint to not recognize the problem) so it gives me a secondary level of security.

I posted earlier about a free program called "Ccleaner" which while not specifically a security program does dump ALL caches even ones you did not know about cleaning out tracking cookies, and all the other crap that has built up (Ccleaner's original name was CrapCleaner) as well as havinga decent registry cleaner built in. everytime you load and unload programs on your computer little bits of info are added to your registry, often no longer going anwhere. as your computer checks the registry to do any task it has to pause to read those dead links slowing your computer way down. clean those out and your computer runs like new again. I downloaded it from majorgeeks.com and it is free.

I used this free anti virus software for two years, worked perfectly.  Once in awhile, they will have a popup asking you to upgrade to premium.  Just hit ok, then that's popup window will disappear.

If you want something that blocks intrusions and asks permissions to download files and install etc then Sunbelt free software is the answer.
