Hi Gang:
I enjoy Christmas as an adult, but I have never been able to recapture the magic that Christmas was, like when I was a child. My Mother was divorced, and she had four little girls to care for. (This was in the day before my wonderful Step Father, and baby brother were in the picture.)
To put it mildly, we was po' .
If it had not been for my Grandparents (My Mothers Parents) we would not of had anything. They were not rich by far, but set aside money each month, long in advance, to handle Christmas. (They took money out of their already tight budget, because they loved us so much.)
Yet, each and every Christmas was like a Norman Rockwell painting. Complete with new toys, a wonderful meal, and my Grandpa dressed up like Santa. See, we had no idea we were poor. We had everything we could wish for. If I had one wish now, I would wish for just one more Christmas like those used to be.
My Grandparents are gone now, as well as my Mother.
It's impossible as a child to appreciate what you have, it just doesn't work that way.
Well I appreciate it now, realize the sacrifices they made for us kids.
I guess I just wanted to share.
The holidays make me all misty.
(One more thing...The bulbs on my Grandmas tree were special bulbs. They could be opened. Inside they were full of candy. Yippee )
Happy Holidays...
