  • Morning Gang:

When someone is convicted of driving under the influence or driving while intoxicated (DUI/DWI), one of the many penalties that a state may issue is a license suspension. (Typically, for your first DUI conviction, you will have your license suspended for no longer than six months. For subsequent convictions, you may be stripped of your driver's license for a year. )

    Are these penalties tuff enough?

    What are your feelings?

We are all aware of the repeat offender.

Can revoking a persons license for life possibly avoid them hurting someone down the road?  Or do you feel losing your license for life on the first offense is to strict?

  • Well, I can tell you, that suspending or permanent revoking of a license will not solve it. I knew one guy (This was in 1977) and he'd been busted 7 times for DUI. He still drove.

I worked with many people with suspended licenses and they still drove. The WORST part? Few held insurance as you get a DUI you can expect a price of 3X the normal cost.

So, they will do so until they want to stop and change their life and actions.

That's why I always carried PIP (Personal injury Protection) and "Under/uninsured" riders and always was careful about my actions.

NOTE:While I was working and driving, I carried a $300,000 policy if I hit/killed someone. After all, that's not alot, but if I was at fault, the survivors would have some cash to see them through the moment.

  • I agree genenco, people will continue to drive even without a license.  I have seen it all too many times.  I have had 2 friends in the last year, that were killed from drinking and driving.  I think that bigger fines, and losing their vehicles could dramatically cut down on the number of people out drinking and driving.  Zero tolerance, what ever is necessary, throw them in prison for 5 years, stop these drunks from getting behind the wheel.

  • This was a very tough question for me. Last year, five young kids who were just 19,20,21 were killed by a  drunken driver, who was speeding like a maniac and killed five young innocent kids instantly. Three of them I knew from when they were little kids. They were all in medical school with my brother and one was his roommate. PPL said to blame on the crime not the human but in this case, am I suppose to blame on the alcohol? I am still mourning for the kids who had so much to give and so many futures comming for them.............
I swear, I dislike ppl who drinks and drive...
Sometimes I ask God...why!!! that same day before  they got killed, these sweet  kids went to feed homeless ppl...playing basketball and tried to go grab something to eat...it breaks my heart to even posting this....

  • Nan, the univserse sure isn't fair.
But, I think to blame the booze is a buck-pass.

PS...I think there is a conspiracy among the men here.  We figure if we keep answering your posts, you'll keep posting back your pic smiley
