Singer R. Kelly owes almost $5m in unpaid taxes

The Chicago Sun-Times has reported that documents filed by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) show that the R&B star owes taxes dating back to 2005!

He was forced to sell his Chicago mansion last year after it became the subject of a legal action over unpaid mortgage payments.

Kelly paid $2.6m in back taxes in 2008. However, despite paying a further $1m last year, the singer still owes the US federal government more than $4.8 million.

The lad has won three Grammy awards and sold over 50 million albums worldwide.

So why didn't he pay a measly 5 million in taxes? I just don't understand how these boys manage to blow up huge amounts of money like that. 

i think with this guy, it has something to do with him being a dummbasss.  He is also famous for making a video of urinating on his "girlfriends"...go figure

It's crazy.  Even if he only made 50c on every album, that's $25 million.  I'm sure he can afford it.

          R. Kelly has  made $5 million?  I couldn't tell you one thing he sings,  raps,  whatever.

You would think he would have boo koo bucks to pay it. The only thing i will say about taxes in Chicago is they are outrageous and one of the highest tax rates in the US. Especially real estate taxes and county taxes. Cigarette taxes are off the charts and oh gas there is the highest in the country.

In most of these situations its their accountant that screws up. And even though $5m may seem like chump change to him the interest and penalties the IRS charge will hike that sky high. By the time you tack that all on he will prolly owe double that at least. Most of these big boys invest their money and don't really have that kind of free cash laying around. Hard to fathom that i agree, but so true.

He was so popular in the 90's. It seems that the more he doesn't sing the worse it gets for him. Remember that whole scandal involving him and that underage girl? I can't remember if he was guilty or not but I always associate him with it.

I used to love some of his music. Never quite understood You Remind Me of Something. Girl you look just like my car? 

      Sorry Blue, I was just trying to be being facetious,  I know he has made a ton of money,  I'm just not down with his music and I kinda  take a dim view of his "activities"  .    But hey!  If he believes he can  "fly"  he might if the IRS is after him.      Oh yeah, Dabigdog,  That skit is too funny,  love Dave Chapelle.

lol funny i am watching r.kelly greatest  hits on tv right now..and while i dont agree with everything he does you cant take away the fact that he is a hit maker....The Worlds

and i believe i can fly is played at a lot kids graduaction i have gone to about 7 graduations including my kids and grandkids where the kids have song that song and bought tears to the audience eyes..
