St. Patty's Day Traditions

Hi all,

I know in the U.S. people celebrate this day without really being Irish, and in Chicago we dye the river green and have a parade to celebrate, followed by bar-hopping and large consumptions of corned beef and cabbage.

I've heard in Ireland, it's not really celebrated. 

What are your traditions, if any?

I love St. Patty's day. It's a mandatory wear green day and of course, drink green beer at the local pubs. This year going to get an early start by getting together with everyone and have a brunch followed by going to pubs where there will be Irish music and dancing 

Sounds like a blast, Lips! Pubs are a must! I have a similar agenda with friends and family.

I love St. Patrick's Day. It's perfect for me cause I love beer and I love corned beef and cabbage. When I was a kid, my mom used to dress me in green and one year, she made shamrocks on my face. Some of my best memories. Never done the Chicago parade but it's a huge event and that green river Nat, awesome! 

On St Patty's Day in Houston, Texas, we celebrate the festivities in local bars, clubs, and restuarants drinking beer (mostly green beer). Throughout the day, everyone wears green or you will be pinched by another person. As time goes by, we have been planning celebrations ahead. More people are getting more involved than usual. Every year I go to my favorite Restuarant & Bar, Bennigans. Bennigans has costume contests and raffles. And the winners usually win free gifts. However, I missed it last year and not for sure if Bennigans celebrate it as before. Generally, most Houstonians attaches a real clover and/or creates them and pin them on.  But now, we have so many party stores and regular stores that have all you need to participate.

I enjoy it more than any other fun holiday!

In Poland we dont have this holiday :)

i didnt know in Ireland they dont celebrate this holliday.but i really dont either, im not irish either, but i do try to wear green that day for the day.
