    Contrary to conventional wisdom, cuddling and caressing are more important to men than women in a long-term relationship, according to a new international study.

    Researchers, who studied responses from adults in the United States, Brazil, Germany, Japan and Spain, also discovered that men were more likely to be happy in their relationship and that frequent kissing or cuddling was an accurate predictor of happiness for men.

    The researchers examined more than 1,000 couples aged 40 to 70 from the five countries who had been together for an average of 25 years.

    Unlike men, women were happier as time went on, according to the findings. If they had been with their partner less than 15 years they were also less likely to be sexually satisfied but that percentage rose significantly after the 15-year mark.

    Japanese men and women were significantly happier in their relationships than Americans, who were more content than Brazilians and Spaniards.

    Japanese men in particular were more than twice as sexually satisfied in their relationships than other nationalities.

    Japanese and Brazilian women were also more likely than American women to be happy with their sex lives.

    "Americans are pretty notoriously not satisfied with things," Heiman said. "The United States is certainly not the happiest country when it comes to comparing it to others."

    I can only speak for myself (and Jake).  He LOVES to cuddle, but he is always hot or sweaty or smelly or whatever, IMHO, and I'm always pushing him away.  I tell him he paws me like a 14 year old boy.  Poor Jake.

    I'm thinking the results of the study had a lot to do with the age of the people in the survey.  When I was younger, it was I who was wanting to do the huggy kissy thing all the time.  Now I'm just the opposite.

    I love cuddle time. Not that is has to be scheduled but when I'm cooking and I have 30 seconds to take something off the heat, that is not the time. LMAOOOOOOOOOOO

    It is sweet though and I'm happy to just scrape off the burned bits.

    ......and all this time i thought the chicks were the cuddly kind! Guess it all depends on personal experience.

    It does seem there is always one that is more affectionate then the other in a relationship. Maybe it does greatly depends on region and culture. Or in many cases the way you are raised?

    With my husband.  He will cuddle if:

    a) he wants sex

    b) he thinks it will lead to sex

    c) he thinks he can talk me into sex

    d)  he mentions he cleaned/cooked/did laundry thinking that combined with cuddling will lead to sex.

    Im not cuddly with my husband simply because he isn't the cuddle type. He tells me to get off him.  But I love cuddles from my kids.

    If women are usually more touchy feely in the younger years and men tend to become that way as they get older...

    Maybe because men push women away so much in younger years, women kind of give up and stray away from the cuddling. Yet after years of being pushed to be more affectionate, men kind of give up and seek the cuddling. Especially since the affection is not being demanded, something could be wrong.
