I was reading that story about "$1,000 stamps on Bingo machines"..
A comment was posted.. "wait til we become addicted then tax the hell out of it"
It's true cigarettes, liquor, gambling.. and even the little ones.. like candy..
You have no choice, pay those high taxes or quit.. what does most of us choose to do, well actually its not even a choice, we are addicted so we pay it..
What do you all think.. is someone smart as heck, or taking advantage of addictions? -

You're right it isn't funny at all..
Never heard of "sin taxes" though til now..
Most of us really don't even know what an addiction is til we experienced it, because when i first started cigs, coffee, even booze.. i had no idea how it was going to be, someone knew something..
Did i mention the higher taxes on Coffee and fastfood? -

Why tax ANYONE? We have created giant/ expensive government systems that we cannot afford. Obama and the Polosi Democrats just raised the debt ceiling to almost 15 trillion dollars. What we owe is so large, that putting huge taxes on everyone would not raise enough money to satisfy our government's lust for spending.
Keep taxes low...including so called sin taxes. And cut spending. -

All I can say is thank goodness for P.A.Y.E. in the UK.
Pay As You Earn. We pay tax on our earnings, savings and anything else the govt. can think of but I'm thankful we get our income taxed at source because I know I would never save up to pay it at the end of the tax year.
Can someone in the US tell me whether you pay tax on your earnings before you are paid your earnings or is it all taxed at the end of the tax year for you?

Taxes are taken from our paychecks..
Theres Federal, State (where aplicable) and Social Security..
Tips are also taxed, if you are a tipped employee
It is also set on how many dependents claimed and also your status.. like single, married, head of household, theres different rates you pay for those choices
At the end of the year if you didn;t pay enough, you owe, if you over paid then your are owed
Alot of people like myself like to over pay so at the end of the year we get that big tax refund -

All you paid in during your employment goes towards what you owe towards a total of the year.
say you made 50,000 the tax on 50,000.. is 5,000.. you paid in 10,000 (taken from your check) you get the difference. If you paid, say only 3,000 you owe that difference of 2,000.
This is only an example of straight tax paid.
Theres alot of tax breaks we do get i can't really list them all, but the main and highest one is "earned income credit" that is usually for people with dependents, and the amount you get can wipe out what you owe and also end you with getting a refund. -

Imagin.ation? I am sending you my taxes to do.

I will no longer fear April 15th with you on my side. You seem to have a good idea of how it works. I'll bring all my paperwork. It is here in the shoe box, some in the garage, some in the ...oh where did I put the rest of it. Oh well, I dont need receipts do I?
Seriously, anytime here in Michigan they need money? They tax the beer and the smokes. If you give up one habit, they still get you on the other one.
The other thing they tax is gas. Like who doesn't need petro? We have one of the highest gas tax there is .

Lol Pam
I only explained the simple taxes, if i talked about the taxes on houses, property, cars, boats, owning your own business, business expenses, tipped employees, medical, higher pay brackets, you know all that crap.. she'd be even more confused..
That was only a basic idea.. the more you own the more you pay and the less break you get.. its so sad..
Not to mention the gas, cigs, booze, magazines, candy & chips, fastfood, and hot food you buy in stores.. its crazy!!! -

Here in Vegas, and i don't know where else if you had big wins, the ones where you are hand paid and signed the tax form, if you have saved your ATM reciepts from the casino, showing how much you withdrew, you can claim wins agianst loses, making it even out.
I had all my Casinos send my a Win/Loss Statement at the end of the year.
This is another one of the advantages of using you comp card.
It records all your playing, and since this is a recording of based on amount
wagered, it always comes out to your advantage at tax time, even if you won large amounts of money.

Food we are not taxed on, its non foods(uneditible items) and cooked foods (example soaps, shampoos, appliances, fastfoods) we are taxed on..
How i can explain it to make it easy..
You are taxed on a certain amount you make (this varies we know this, this is your yearly income) at the end of the year, there are deductions they take off, such as an amount for being single they have set a certain amount to deduct from your year that they have calulated being that is how much in taxes you already paid towards soaps, shampoos and other taxable items.. what you spend is calulated and is set, being married, head of household, single.. they all have different amounts set to deduct that is fugured for how much they beleive you have paid in the year, like people with children have to buy diapers they pay more taxes so as they get a tax break "earned income credit" they figure people without children don't have that extra expense of taxes.. -

Yes exactly Nal.. so if you are a gambler its good to save those ATM receipts, and use comp cards, because if you hit a biggie, and hit alot of them you're paying biggie.. if you cannot show you paid just as much to win it. -

This is what I am trying to tell you...I won tons on large amounts of money, and never paid taxes on any of it, just based on the win/loss statements. Amounts Wagered, surpass always, and this shows as a LOSS. -
