In our family it's one of those rare moments we all gather together! Traditional dishes, drinks...nothing new!
But after meal we have a tradition to play a game, a board one or something...I like it most of all! It's always sooooo funny!
I usually make a video and take photos...it's one of my passions! So the family calls me "local paparazzi"!

Up until 5 years ago, I loved this time of year, especially Thanksgiving. I lost my husband of 23 years to a motorcycle accident in 2004 so holidays are not as special to me as they once were. Our tradition was to spend Thanksgiving with his side of the family, which was always a wonderful day...lots of delicious food, some drink and of course, the football. We too would often play cards or board games later in the day/evening. I have since remarried but things are and never will be the same, still do my best to enjoy the life I still have (especially my grandkids) and try to start new traditions with new friends/family. Still...just kind of a sad time for me.

Hi hymacaw,
The holiday season can be a very sad time of year. Especially when losing some so dear to your heart. I know by your words you really loved him. I hope you can embrace the memories and found peace in your heart.
Just simply talking about it helps to soothe the soul. I'm sorry for your loss and will keep you in my thoughts through the season.
Thanks for sharing something so sacred. It moves me deeply when members like yourself open up to us......your LCB family.

I don't talk much about how I feel since losing my husband which is probably why I don't cope well around the holidays. I stayed strong for our daughter and his mother, who still grieves deeply for the loss of her son. I still think about him every single day and probably will til the day I die. Thank you for being so kind and putting questions out for discussion that often prompt us to open up & share. Wishing you and ALL the LCB members a very happy holiday season. -

Hymacaw, I am so very sorry for your loss. My husband rides a bike and I worry every time he goes out for a ride.
As for our Thanksgiving, we go to my MIL's house up in Monterey and eat lots of Turkey and my favorite - stuffing! All of it is good, but I love the stuffing!
We have started a tradition of going out for a walk and then playing a board game or two after dinner.
It's usually quite nice. As nice as a visit to the MIL can be, I guess.
Everyone sounds like they have nice Thanksgiving plans. Enjoy! -

Eat, eat, drink..watch football, eat, drink , drink, eat and passout on the couch. A thanksgiving day tradition for me.
Tony
Ditto! But we also usually play some type of board game Taboo, Pictionarry... but this year we are playing a game of real football at the park...men, women, children! I can't wait to stiff arm somebody :-) -

hello hymacaw
It acts to me really suffer
for you that you have lost your man. This must be really awful if somebody must go whom one loves very much. An old saying says, whenever one means, it does not go any more, comes from somewhere a little light. I wish you that also for you always somewhere a little light is to be seen. -

Thank you Amy. My husband only had his new Harley for a month, went for a short ride to watch the Superbowl in town with a friend and for reasons we'll never know, he crossed the center line & hit a BIG truck head on...only 2 miles from our home. I pray for all those motorcyle riders out there....that they always have a safe ride to and from their destinations...including your husband. -

fiedo8, you are SO kind, thank you for your heartfelt post, you made my heart glad today. While I have remarried to another incredible guy, no man will ever take the place of the husband I tragically lost. I do find a little light each day, especially in my animal family and my grandchildren. Warm hugs to you. -
